Another thing I would suggest as an option is to get a set of gi pants from any martial arts supplier. They're simple in design, and easily used as a pattern. And, if you get them of heavy enough fabric, they're quite acceptable for spending time in the woods, in their own right. I've got a few pair...

The SCA has combat archery as a combat form, and it's included in some battles. There are two types. The first uses bows of up to 30#, fiberglass arrows with heads of either dense plastic or heavy rubber, and 1 1/4 " minimum diameter (so as to not penetrate the bars of the helms). There is also...

Peter, that staff looks very cool. I'll have to give that a try. I've got a bowcase for my longbox. It will also carry a quiver full of arros. In good weather I used to ride my bike over to a local SCA archery practice, with bow slug across my back. I know I got some strange looks from the motorists...

Greetings, all, One option for carrying a spear would be a sheath for the head. Not difficult to make, and it would make for safer carry. You could also line it with felt, to hold oil, I suppose. Peter, I'm intrigued by your mention of copper tubing at the ends of the staff. That sounds like a great...

Greetings, all,

For those who use flint and steel, what have you found to be a good steel for this purpose? I understand that it should be quite hard, so as to get a good spark. But as for what to use?

Greetings, all, Excellent idea, Stonedog, espeically without using a pole. Years ago, when doing some ops with a Norwegian Jaeger company, they used tents put together from diamond shaped shelter halves. And they preferred to use no poles, just tying them up to trees (when available). They made thes...

Greetings all! And, much like Atharien, I've already posted, although in the WMA section. I'm in southwest Pennsylvania, and former SCA, as well as a student of western martial arts, as well as eastern. Also some military experience, from many years ago. Intrigued by the whole concept here. I think ...

Greetings, all. This is a fascinating site, and an intriguing project. I hope I can contribute a bit. Another source I would recommend adding to the library is Joachim Meyer's "The Art of Combat" from 1570. The books starts with the longsword, but covers other weapons as well. Right now, a...
