cLOAK pIN FIRE STRIKER

I have seen these in two places, neither of which seem to offer them any more. I feel that it would be both fire striker AND a cloak pin IF Anyone knows where I can get one. https://www.etsy.com/listing/123330118/cloak-pin-striker and http://soldiersystems.net/2011/07/06/fire-steel-blanket-pin-and-a...

Re: Arrow Designs and Fletchings (Pic Heavy)

The cresting work is fantastic as well! I wanted a crest that would seperate my arrows from everyone else's AND be easy to remember and would be instantly identifiable in case someone found my shaft in the brush. So I used my SCA Arms, red on silver on a starry night sky. Although I love your fletc...

Re: HORN VAMBRACE

Great idea Rik! Did you reshape the horns curve or did you fit it to your arm as it curved naturaly? I have been working with some techniques for flexing the horn, that my mentor is showing me and we are making some horn spoons. The Archery brace would be a great use of the material! I wa...

When I need to sharpen an arrowhead, It is safer to remove it from the arrow shaft then you have to hold that thing. So I made this set-up. http://rick-johnsons-writings.webs.com/mer285.jpg[img] This is a hone steel glued to a piece of wood I found at the Humane Society Thrift Store. I find LOTS of ...

ARROW SET TOOL

Mounting a broadhead onto a shaft is a literal pain, especially when you have to hold those sharp blades. So after seeing a rubber/plastic set in the 3-Rivers catalogue, I thought, “I can make a period-looking one of these far cheaper.” As a poor and amature seamstress(?), I have lots of empty t...

HORN VAMBRACE

While looking for some cowhorn to tip my longbow, I was given a single longhorn, I was able to cut the point for my longbow, then began to section the longer part to make horn-boxes. I am currently working on those, wood base and cork-&-wood lid. As for that long section, I thought… vambrace! ...

Re: Arrow Designs and Fletchings (Pic Heavy)

works of art!
I would be afraid to shoot these for fear of damaging them.

I make my own arrows, like many here, but my work is nothing close to yours.

Re: ARROWS AND HOOKS

... It's National Forest Service land, so theoretically there should be no issue in doing so. We plan on fishing a little, so a fishing license is a must, but we do not plan on hunting - our bows will be strictly for show and/or stump shooting well away from the path, or any people who may be prese...

Re: Rope?

there are lots of Period rope and cord, sisal comes to mind.
You can also make a lucet to convert your cord to rope.

I've made some rope but save for tieing tents and things to my pack, I'd never trust my own rope to support my life<g>

Re: TARP TENT

I'm thinking of adding tie-loops along the canvas every 1/3 if the way to give tie-down points.
It complicates the set-up but may be the only solution.
Designing and making archery/fishing/sewing/etc gear is easy compared to a workable tent that is comfortable, warm and dry.

Re: TARP TENT

Set the preliminary tent up last night and discovered that you can stretch polytarp taught but canvas is too heavy and stretched to the point that you can never get it tight enough. I ended up adding internal support poles along the sides to keep it from sagging into my face. I still lost the half t...

Re: TARP TENT

I am now thinking that 9x9 may be as useful but smaller and lighter to carry.
Also easier to find a 9' space than a 12' space<g>
