Re: Teaching Tolkien

I had an english teacher last year (french school, still teaching colours to 13 year olds), and she was sooooo rubbish at english. Numerous times, we would disagree on a word and argue about it for 5 minutes. I then asked her to look in a dictionnary... Oh you should of seen her face, still wouldn't ...

Re: First hunt- not period

Good ranger practice for being patient for hours on end ;)
I'm hoping to start hunting some time soon but not quite sure where to do it.

Re: Hunting bow

Thanks, I'll get a 40 pounder. Although i might have to wait till the summer when we go back to the uk :( What do you think about these two? They're cheap and might not be great quality... - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Handcrafted-longbow-Made-hickory-40-/260552094421?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3c...

Desert kit

The kit I'm trying to develop starts to get a bit tricky here. In the desert it can get amazingly hot in the day (I've been in 50'Celsius before) and pretty cold at night (never below 0 though). So I have to find clothing to keep me cool and warm at the same time, because I don't think I can afford ...

Hunting bow

I only have a modern bow at the moment (Polaris take-down recurve) but I'm hoping to buy this bow: http://woodbows.com/rfixed2.html . I can't really pull much more (being only 14), but is this enough poundage to take down small game like rabbits and the most dreaded impossible to kill turkey? My cur...

Re: Shelter Experiments

NOW THAT! is what I'm talking about... awesome, Frothgar! That is my perfect type of shelter for the desert, although I'll have to use my spear to tie it up... Although it might not keep my off the ground but then again, it's low, gives you shade, lightweight.... I would either spread glue on it the...

Re: Maps?

I once did an atlas for a middle-earthy world- I drew the world map and divided it into sections then drew each of those sections then drew maps of all the towns. It wasn't accurate scale and stuff but it did look pretty nice... as a matter of fact i've still got a few sections to do..

Re: How often would a ranger wear chainmail?

Thanks guys, really helpful. I want to make a brigandine sometime soon which might make a good compromise between protection and noise (even though maille isn't that noisy).
