Re: Dúnedain Sword Designs
Even before the Bristol I had a love for that type of fishtail pommel, even though it's a later period shape. I always get hung up on the bit about Boromir's sword being the same type as Anduril, just "of lesser lineage." Since Boromir is noted as carrying a shield, it stands to reason tha...

Re: New sword soon!
Very cool! The concept reminds me of the Ádám Bodorics Thrust and Cut Messer on Kult of Athena.

I like how your take has a pommel cap. I can't tell from the sketch, are you including a negal?

Re: Minyacálë - Numenorean Eket (Process Thread)
Exciting project! For what it's worth, Tolkien tells us what the length of an Eket should be: "28 : This was of a kind called eket: a short stabbing sword with a broad blade, pointed and two-edged, from a foot to one and a half feet long." -Unfinished Tales: The Disaster of the Gladden Fi...

Re: Minyacálë - Numenorean Eket (Process Thread)
As I mentioned on the Discord, I agree that (from left to right) 2 and 3 are my favorite. 2, because I like the symmetry of the guard and pommel and I'm super partial to ring pommels that appear on some spatha. 3, because it still has the "I'm a fish tail" look but very nontraditional. And...

Re: White Handled Knife
I've always envisioned a more graceful version of a bauernwehr or rugger as Legolas' sidearm. Something with maybe a 12-16 inch blade, but lacking the guard structure of a smaller messer. I also don't really like the visuals of a traditional nagel for elven design, so I usually imagine it with a si...

I agree, especially with the lack of naigle. Though I like the s-curved guards.
Something like this, minus the shell on the
guard:

Re: White Handled Knife
Totally agree with you, Manv. Any thoughts on form though? I'm trying to come up with something for my kit that fits the bill and mulling it over as I do. And again, this is mostly based off of the idea that Legolas didn't carry a sword, something I find fascinating since the elves didn't eschew swo...

Re: White Handled Knife
My thought was less breaking a guard and more breaking down primals on a hunted animal.
Though the third example with the antler handle looks like it would work.

White Handled Knife
I'm putting this here instead of either Weapons and Armour or Hard Kit as I felt it could be either and it's more culture specific to kit. That said, I've been thinking about what kind of blade to carry as an elven ranger. Since Legolas carries a "white handled knife" what do we think that...

Re: Lets talk Eorlingas.
The rule of thumb back in the old SCA days was give yourself a fist bump with your forearms straight across, parallel with the floor and measure elbow to elbow.
That supposedly gave you the ideal diameter round shield for your body size.

Re: Dúnadan Ranger Illustrated Kit By Layers
I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SO VERY MUCH!!!! I especially like the little stitching touches like that square under the dude's neck slit that show you've actually made and worn this stuff. :) I also really like that gal's tunic with the arc motif at her sleeves - classy! I have thoughts on the undergarmen...

Re: Esgaroth - Merchant Adventurer Sword
If you ever decide it doesn't work as a ranger sword and want to move it out of your collection, please DM me here. I'd be happy to take it off your hands if the price is right.
