Re: Cedarlore Forge

It's always nifty to see someone starting a new path. I wish him all the blessings available. But dangit if his site irritates me right of the bat. Any time a site has tool bars that I can't make go away I immediately don't want to be there. The Middle-Earth Network at the top and the Middle Earth R...

Re: wool

I still would like to get some hemp fabric and make some garb with it. Been looking at stuff on Hemptraders.com at their fabric area http://www.hemptraders.com/index.php?cPath=21 I've used hemp/cotton twill as a shell for a padded gambeson/coat. Natural cotton batting for the padding. It wore very ...

I have that model. It's name is Braker. I love it and would recommend it too.

Re: Armors

Along the lines of textile armors, I found this article on MyArmoury: Spotlight: Quilted Armour Defenses of the High Middle Ages And this thread popped up recently. I have been following it, as I find the whole subject fascinating. Gambeson/Aketon There was also a post in the "Show us your kits...

Gondian,

Would you be willing or have to time to show what the two parts of your half glove and bracer look like separated?

Re: Scenario: Desert, 3 things

What Pete said, Plus. Use your large robe for a tent during the hottest part of the day and travel at night. Is it hart to sleep in a tiny, hot tent made of a robe? Yes, and I speak from experience! But there's enough light at night in the desert to travel by and you can use the stars to navigate. I...

Re: Armors

I'm looking at going essentially unarmored actually; just the padded gambeson and perhaps a jupon with studs to go over it. Light, comfortable..and using the right wool even wearable in Summer as wool breathes nicely. It isn't going to be four inches thick like historic examples. I've never seen an...

It's also listed as "Dry Clean Only."

Re: Middle Earth and Helmets

This thread from MyArmoury.com has some truly lovely bits in it that I think would suit a ranger well.

Re: Axes

I'm thinking of grabbing up one of these. They run at about $18-$24 depending on the time of year, and I figure I can sand the handle to get the branding off.

Re: How often would a ranger wear chainmail?

Are you thinking of historical brigandine or the style they use in SCA/LARP?

The later being easier, the former being sexier. ;)

I'm just asking for curiosity's sake.

Re: New swordmakers?

Ollin are actually much more prolific than their website would lead you to believe and they're not that new. I've seen a few of their pieces for sale on the sword forums that never made it to the website. One that I saw in person was a recreation of a mortuary sword side by side with it's original a...
