Re: Thoughts on Civil War "Dog Tents?"

Napoleonic Redcoat here. In my Period there were instructions how to make a tent from two blankets, two firelocks and four bayonets. So we assume tent groups of four..... Packing a sodden blanket into your pack must of been horrible, especially when any dry(ish) clothing would of been in there to. ...

Re: Thoughts on Civil War "Dog Tents?"

May I suggest looking also at WWI German Zeltbahns (the square ones, not necessarily the later triangles), the Russian WWII plasch-palatka, and the postwar(?) German civilian Kohte tents? I think you'll find a lot to like - the shape of the last just seems begging to be made into a somewhat more re...

The Adventurer's Guide: Weapons

The following is an excerpt from the book that I am currently writing, The Adventurer's Guide. It is meant to be a setting-ambiguous guide for your typical fantasy adventurer to learn all about the equipment and techniques they'll need on their adventures. While not Middle Earth or ranger specific, ...

Thoughts on Civil War "Dog Tents?"

I'm a US Civil War reenactor, and wanted to get y'alls opinion on how fitting Civil War era "dog tents" would be for ranging. Dog tents were white canvas shelter halves that each soldier carried. When it came time to set up camp, two soldiers would pair up and combine their halves two form...

Thanks! I'll certainly need some proof readers down the line. I'll let you know!

Re: Hello! A Writer Joining for Inspiration

Cool and good luck! I think you might want to have a look at the Gwelf Survival Guide - it's got a similar structure to what you're talking about, but of course with a very different setting. https://www.eyeofnewtpress.com/products/gwelf-the-survival-guide And you may already know this, but for thi...

Re: Stealth and blending in to the terrain

I know a fair bit about camouflage, as an infantry veteran. Camouflage helps you blend into the environment in four way; color, shine, silhouette, thermal. Color is probably the most obvious. The closer in colors you are to your environment, the more you blend in. For most natural environments, that...

When I do Civil War reenactment in the Summer, I start to look forward to the point that my wool uniform is soaked in my sweat, to help keep cool.

Re: Hello! A Writer Joining for Inspiration

Hi and Welcome! Your book sounds interesting and because you asked, you might want to include some Herb lore. I'd recommend real plants first particularly those with medicinal value and then some fantasy plants. Some other topics to include would be the animals one might bring on an adventure. Type...

Hello! A Writer Joining for Inspiration

Hello everyone, I wanted to introduce myself and talk a little bit about why I decided to join your wonderful group. I am a fantasy lover, an infantry veteran, a HEMA practitioner, and (although I don't get the chance to practice NEARLY as much as I like) a bushcraft/survival skills enthusiast (both...
