Re: To Prof. Tolkien, wherever he may be...
I have very much enjoyed reading Tolkien's Middle Earth books .... and I have very much enjoyed viewing Jackson's LOTR trilogy and THE HOBBIT movie of 2012. I am now awaiting the date when I can order THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG DVD from Amazon next year.

Re: Kris Cutlery Roman Spatha
When you do get yours, do you plan on modifying it in any way? I'm particularly wondering about decoration to the scabbard or hilt, since they are wood and thus more easily changed. With all that wood to work with, I can see a lot of possibilities for someone with the skills. I admire the work that...

Kris Cutlery Roman Spatha
http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/gg50/alvin1949/SwordandScabbard.jpg I had been interested in this sword for quite some time. I finally ordered one from Kult of Athena on Aug. 01, 2013. Lucky for me that I did, as KoA now shows this sword as being back ordered. I have read on another forum that K...

Re: U.S. Model 1909 Bolo Knife Reproduction
Thank you Peter. The M1917 looks to be a great knife to modify. And, like the M1909, a great camp/woods tool. I see that KoA's price is $30 less than IMA's price for the same M1917 bolo knife !! I have had nothing but good experiences in my dealings with KoA over the years.

U.S. Model 1909 Bolo Knife Reproduction
This is a review of the "reproduction" of the U.S. Model 1909 Bolo Knife offered by International Miltary Antiques (IMA). While the blade markings are not the usual ones found on Middle Earth weapons, I think that the knife could make a nice heavy duty woods tool for a MER, and as a weapo...

Re: Sting?
I think Fallsoffdragons may have hit on something. Tolkien may have had Celtic weaponry in mind because of his war service. The shape of the WWI Welsh trench sword appears to me to be a direct offspring of many Celtic blades. The ancient sword stone located in Wales bares a close likeness to the WWI...

Re: Sword Preference?
While not necessarily my preference in a sword, I saw this piece by Petr Florianek in a MyArmoury post and thought it unique looking as well as appearing to be a practical shortsword. To my poor eyes, it looks to be a commission work by a Dwarven ´smith. http://gullinbursti.cz/index.php?lang=en&...

Re: Sword Preference?
Another sword that I believe is appropriate for Ranger use is my Gus Trim AT1211. It is longer than the ATrim shortsword that I posted a couple pages back, but is still short, light - a tad over 2 pounds - and very powerful in the cut - not so much in the thrust. http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/g...
