M.Pikula war sword and Iron Wolf Scabbard and belt
I've completed a scabbard and belt with a two point suspension for my Micheal Pikula Nordic war sword. Which I have named Skrep. Specs of the scabbard: Felt lined, poplar core completely hand carved and shaped, the blade channel had 1/8" of play between the swords edge and the scabbard wall pri...

Re: Full Metal Jousting
The show I auditioned for was on the History Channel, KOM is a different show and group of people. Charlie Andrews has some off the wall ideas, Knights should weigh 200+ pounds and horses should be in the draft category....This is -to put it mildly- pure bullshit! As this would've excluded nearly al...

Re: Defending the Hill
I see no reason why options 1-2-3-4 are mutually exclusive, a very famous band of refugees literally cut several national armies to dog meat, using deception, terrain, and overwhelming numbers at key points...The Isrealites.

Re: Defending the Hill
I was talking in terms of the big picture, from the perspective of the overlord or king responsible for a collection of settlements, not just this one. I mean no disrespect to you, but the stronghold would be untenable with the numbers specified. Tolkiens orcs are very similar in many ways to the Mo...

Re: Defending the Hill
More-so generally than weapons,I would be thinking about a network of communication through good runners and riders, as scouts would not have to march all the way back to the settlements to report simply linking up with their relays at set points to relay intelligence and muster the warriors. The ou...

Re: Defending the Hill
I would be very worried about fire if defending a palisade. I would also be somewhat worried about night attacks...The attacking force will likely outnumber us they can fight in shifts with the exhausted falling back to rest while fresh troops press the attack. Your men will have to fight harder and...

Re: A question about tanning
If your looking for a simple way to tan a fur there are solutions available from Cabelas, Leather Unlimted, and tandys. If you want to brain tan, your going to find everyone has a recipe. If you already have the skin make sure to keep it frozen I dont like salted hides, thaw your hide or if you did ...

Re: Ranger Fitness?
With respect, to the those who are armys of one, I'm an army of two Ranger (my horse) is the star athlete of my team in addition to being my primary weapons platform. I strive to keep fit out of respect for my horse, as he literally has to "carry the team" .....and hes the only team member...

Gas welding. look for a Victor micro torch. As usual I dont have one but I've been told they make it easier, My practice runs have been with my dads oxy-acetalyne rig using a brazing tip, if your not careful you will destroy the ring so timing is critical....Its tedious and it takes practice so be p...

Re: Armors
The Eddas? no. But the sagas do reference very ranger like kit, remember striders coat? well a very similar long coat is referenced. The further North you go in saga evidence the more references you have to possible ruck's, as well as skates and skis, alternately called snowshoes etc. In southern Sc...
