Re: Desolation of Smaug Trailer

Saw this as soon as it was out! Firstly, awesome trailer. I am really looking forward to it. On the other hand, there are a few things that I found a bit... well... yea. Firstly, I agree with you about Bard. Tauriel, although I am not a big fan of characters who aren't strictly in the book (i.e. Azo...

Re: kit carrying options

In terms of carrying a roll with the quiver, I've been planning to do this with a quiver I am currently making. Essentially I have left a couple of 'flanges' on one side of the quiver. Then punched pairs of holes (grommets may be needed) so that I can basically secure things with leather lace - almo...

Scuffing on bow glove

Sooo I made a new batch of arrows so can start shooting again. These ones are a little vicious on the bow hand, and they seem to scuff up the leather a bit, like this http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc369/Jonathan_Lawson/DSCN6636_zps4df0839e.jpg I'm not sure what the best solution to this is, as...

Re: New Hunting quiver

Very sleek and neat. The leaves are a work of art!

How did you colour the leather so (assuming it is all one piece)? And are the leaves embossed?

How would a traditional version of modern mess tins work? Or you could just carry modern ones, though it may look a little off...

Perhaps of the sort....

Re: Armour

IMHO I think that it all depends on how you choose to interpret the role. Rangers are light, mobile, units - also much of their time would not be spent in open conflict, and if any fighting had to occur, I think one can assume it to be fairly guerilla style (think ambushes, etc.). However they are d...

Re: long sword exercises

I'm also interested in this topic. In terms of actually swinging a sword and wielding a shield continuously, not the 'fitness' aspect, what muscle groups are mainly worked? I cannot claim to have much experience in this area. Straelbora, what I do for pics is upload them to photobucket, and then cop...

Re: Questions about materials...

Those are some awesome links Deadextra, thanks! I was doing some research and looking at some of those patterns and it does seem that my conception of a haversack was wrong. I'm guessing if there were leather ones they were quite light leather? I have some spare 4oz or so, which I may use instead of...

Questions about materials...

I know a thing or two about leather, but when it comes to linen or canvas I am completely lost. Help me out! I just had a few questions regarding material: - making an arrow bag; what is the best way to waterproof the material? (I can't tell what sort it is exactly, sort of like canvas but softer, a...

Good stuff! Is the sheath at all shaped (I mean like boiling the leather then stretching it around a mould)?

Re: New Bow

One would think that a lot of weight on the ends would make the bow shoot more sluggishly...? I guess them being there to reinforce stressed parts would make sense - but then why are the main bits of the upper and lower limb, the parts I assume do the most work, so thin?

No problem. I shall closely study the picture, and attempt a similar design :)
