A couple of finished knives

A lot of reenactment level work is about learning appropriate historical crafts and skills. This board is for all general skills that don't have their own forum.

A couple of finished knives

Post by Eric C »

I finished these up today. One was a commission, the other was for a powerpoint project that my daughter, Ruinferil, is doing for her class at school.

And now for some stats:

For the full-tanged knife:
It is forged from 3/16" sawblade steel. Handle is walnut with brass pins
Weight: 6oz
OAL: 9 1/8"
Blade length: 4 3/8"
Blade width 1 7/16" right in front of ricasso

Antler knife:
Forged from a sawblade that was a little thicker than 3/16". Partial tang construction. Handle is white tail antler and walnut with a leather spacer and a brass pin.
Weight: 7.5 oz
OAL 9 15/16"
Blade length: 5 1/4"
Blade width 1 9/16" at the point on the ricasso
Thickness: ~ 3/16"

Ru was excited when I gave her the walnut handled knife after she videoed most of its making. Hope you enjoy. Any questions or comments are welcome. I'm hoping to put up the video on my forge page on FB in coming days.

Nice work, my friend. I might have some work in the future if you are interested. One of my local SCA friends is in need of a seax for his off-field kit. If he actually gets me info, I will forward it to you if you feel you have the time.
Still round the corner there may wait a new road or a secret gate and though I oft have passed them by a day will come at last when I shall take the hidden paths that run west of the moon, east of the sun.

Glad you like them Dirhael! The little walnut Ute isn't my favorite. I felt like it was a rush job. But it is special in its own way. It is the first that I used my new 2"X72" grinder to make. I'm liking the grinder, but I have a lot to learn about it.

Thanks. The antler handled knife is in the hands of its owner now. He is pretty happy with it.

Look great! Good lines!
