Beginning casting...any advice?

A lot of reenactment level work is about learning appropriate historical crafts and skills. This board is for all general skills that don't have their own forum.

Silicon Bronze.

Gareth, I had heard of soap stone moulds...does sandstone work as well? If so I can get all I need .

Heres an article that inspired me to try this: http://web.comhem.se/vikingbronze/casting.htm

Great article, R.D. and I will be watching the topic with great interest, as it is always something I have wanted to try. Being married to an artist, I would love to see some of her art and designs rendered in full as jewelry. Just be careful!

I think i'm going to start with pewter and work my way up to bronze, eventually, I figure if works out well enough I can justify trying to get set up with more costly equipment and materials, bronze aint too expensive but then again it aint exactly cheap either, I want to keep my screw-ups as cheap as possible  .

Gareth, thank you kindly for your input 8)
