Re: Medieval "Pants"
It should be noted that if you are in a northerly temperate climate where you are likely to get cold and or wet, that cotton and leather are not good for keeping you warm, wool even when wet will not get as cold as the other materials, a survival quote i remember "cotton kills" Also wool g...

Re: Rhymes of Lore
One i just reminded of on a trip North to my parents. Oak before Ash, we're in for a splash. Ash before Oak, we're in for a soak. Relates to which trees leaves first emerge indicates where we are in for a wet or dry summer. Note that this is English, not sure how it relates to other countries or con...

Re: I got my bow!! - UPDATED WITH PICS!
Just seconding whats been said. Check out bracing hieght, and certainly getting arrows of an appropriate length, you are having to under draw quite a bit in the photos and that will do nothing for learning a good style. Also make sure they vare properly spined to the weight of the bow. They don't ha...

Re: Falchions?
Well i think the designs are there already. The detail and finish could be more ME but I don't see a way to improve the actual designs of the real world. With a history as long as ME one could use anyone od the possible real world options as suited what the individual wanted and it would and be able...

Re: Falchions?
Falchion, messer, saex, kopis, kukri.... they all follow a similar forat of being a one edged cutting weapon. I mentioned in a thread a while back that that a Greek celt-iberian kopis also makes a good ranger sword. Short enough to not get in the way long enough and designed to do good damage and mo...

Re: Coming of Age
Well we don't know what happened before the Normans because they swept all away..... :') Much of so called history is a contruct rather than fact. Whether its made up for and acknowledged as fiction (Tolkien) of whether is made up as "fact" (many religions, political parties, countries ide...

Re: Coming of Age
And as a PS. One of the reasons for Tolkien creating middle earth was to give "England" back its ancient lore and mythology that had been lost and or replaced because of christianity, this from a confirmed christian. So while not attaching value judgenments to any form of belief context is...

Re: Coming of Age
Ok. Though not bashing religion in isolation. Rather the point that people knew more about Tolkien or bible history rather their own. Knowledge of tolkien is no less relavent than bible history or any other for that matter. How many facts are actually that.
Anyway.
Anyway.

Re: Coming of Age
Yes i find it sad and rather disturbing that most people know more "biblical" "history" than they do of actual history from where they are from. Also many of the generally held "facts" from the bible are not actually in the bible at all, or only get loose or passing men...

Re: The Basics
Well the bracers most "rangers" wear aren't archers bracers although they are close to "robin hood" type "traditional" bracers. All surviving medieval and early bracers are small and look very different. While various kinds of arms proltection were worn very little look...
