Ha! That's awesome!
.. now I'm wishing for a Clamavi de Profundis rendition.

Re: Existence of the Slipjoint?
You know... I think I have one of those bottom ones. I got it ages ago for my 18th c. stuff, and if memory serves was a little disappointed. Hold on... ah! here we go - folding-knife-comparison.jpg Here's a better look, compared with an original. (where "original" just means "made in ...

Re: Existence of the Slipjoint?
As an additional option, I think I've seen some of the Godwin folders carried by other 18th c. vendors. I think sometimes they have modern nation of origin marks on the blades or are from stainless, so if you care it's worth checking before purchase. https://www.townsends.us/collections/knives-sheat...

Re: Overnight trip to test clothing
Wecome, and what a wonderful trip! The Pacific Northwest is gorgeous, I'm jealous! You're off to an amazing start! The nice thing about Hobbits is you've got a lot of nice off the shelf options for packs and such from the 18th c. folks. A plain linen sack with rope straps is good for a &qu...

Hello Wraith, well met! To follow up on Peter's excellent advice, a couple other things you can work on even with very meagre means - - practice making a nice tight bedroll with what you have on hand. While we play with period woolens in our games, remember that the characters we read about are just...

Re: Middle-earth Watercraft
That is fantastic!! I assume Udwin made his craft - were the other two your own respective work, or simply very fortuitous finds? I'd not thought about a cloth-covered hull for Gondorians, but come to think of it... with the amount of sailcloth that must be around Gondor and Dol Amroth, it's a compe...

Re: Thoughts on Civil War "Dog Tents?"
Hey screenahollic, thanks for the research rabbit hole! I found this video: 7exUziPjruI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7exUziPjruI ... and interestingly, the "Type I" ACW Shelter half and the German WWI Zeltbahn I was referring to appear to be basically the same thing. If I'm finding the ...

Re: Presentation of my first soft kit (with photos)
Nicely done, and it looks very functional! I love the little fish drawing especially. I'm curious about your belt! This is more a general reenactor/LARP/cosplay culture question than anything specific to Middle-earth. I was under the impression the tongueless ring belt was just something w...

Re: Elven Ranger Clothing Concept
I do like the collar of the shirt and the robe, though the crossed over overtunic/waistcoat does read a bit too eastern to my eye also. Though I love the sash and neckline. Hrm.. not sure, there. What materials are you thinking? I do love raw silk generally, especially for warmer weather. And I thin...

Windlass XIV, big sale, Mar 23, 2024
Not mine, this just turned up in a mass email. For those who've been eyeing the XIV as a short wilderness sword, the best deal in quite some time has just turned up. Between the overstock markdown and the discount code, today it's gone from almost $300 to just over $200. https://www.museumreplicas.c...
