Re: The Fire-Bag.

It makes perfect sense. Many firesteels have a sort of "tail" that is not of much use besides tying it to something. And it's often dark when you make fire. (None of us has ever dropped pieces of essential equipment in the forest at night...) Well I can not claim that this metho...

Re: The Fire-Bag.

Thanks for sharing, Keith! I like your bag, and I would have never thought of tying off the firesteel like that! Ken It makes it easier when I am making fire Ken, I can strike sparks onto the tinder in the tinderbox & then simply drop the steel & get on with making fire. No chance of losing...

The Fire-Bag.

“Dwarves can make a fire almost anywhere out of almost anything, wind or no wind; but they could not do it that night, not even Oin & Gloin, who were especially good at it”. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. My fire-bag is a greased leather bag in which I keep my tinderbox & a beeswax candl...

Re: Prepper vs Ranger

Thanks for the answers! Yeah, I failed to mention anything about clothing. That is a very good topic. How are we going to stay warm while moving or hunting? In what practical ways are our particular outfits an asset to us? I know my cloak is made from two British Army blankets. They cover me pretty...

Re: Prepper vs Ranger

Okay, so I have to be very careful with this post. It actually arises from conversations with an acquaintance I have. I've known the guy for years and - quite frankly - over the last few years I think the guy has lost his ever-loving mind. Here's where I have to be careful. The crux of our conversa...

http://www.larsdatter.com/cloaks.htm https://au.pinterest.com/laterus/medieval-clothing-male/ Can you unpack that thought.... I am curious what you are saying with these links. The second one does not seem to be historical, more like fantasy and film. Was there a particular picture that stood out a...

Re: Packs and Cloaks

Building a new ranger watch-cloak, and musing on how to make packs/quivers work with it. I've thought of some strategic slits in the sides & back. It makes me really understand how/why gardecorps evolved. Anyone have a solution? I would not think that you will bother walking in the rain or heav...

Another important thing to remember, is that we are animals too, & other animals are much like us, some are smarter than others.
