Re: Dúnedain Hats?

Personally, if I do a sewn one (rather than a knit or nalbound one) I think I’ll be using a mid-to-heavy-weight Wool, but if I use a lighter weight material I’ll probably line it.

Re: Dwarven short sleeved wool coat - kit update

Also, just wanted to pop back in and mention that the short sleeves are great! To me the overall shape is slightly reminiscent of a short-sleeved gambeson or a Viking jacket/super-tunic with short sleeves. It therefore feels vaguely “medieval-ish” without being directly tied down to any real-world c...

Re: Small stoppered tubes

That’s brilliant! Definitely made me think of a needle case first too, but yeah, there are probably a number of other applications!

Re: Autumn 2020 available now!

Haven’t perused the entire thing yet, but I can already tell this one is going to be of special interest to me, thanks! Incidentally, looking over your membership requirements has definitely made certain aspects of the Society more clear to me in terms of what standards you’re looking to achieve, so...

Re: In Search of the Many-Rayed Star

OOOOOOOOKAY. So I keep meaning to post about this, but life has really been... something... lately, and I just keep forgetting. After a bit of back-and-forth, the gentleman I had been talking to at Shadowstar Studio sent me a photo (below) of his finalized design. It’s still not exactly what I had i...

Re: Where Do You Get Your Wool?

Cool! ... my current "Middle earth" cloak does something similar, but it's stitched in place rather than using clasps. It's still not perfect, but it's sooooo much better at not turning into a noose the second the wind picks up. No kidding! I certainly know the feeling. Being ch...

Re: Where Do You Get Your Wool?

Oooh... that charcoal stuff does look great! What pattern are you using? I’m going to make an attempt at a “Frodo” style cloak, also partially inspired by the one Urthgard posted here a number of years back: 8EDBF172-A3AA-4CB0-B197-0F1051C2E04A.jpeg CBF4F5B5-B011-4CE9-9E29-8E5ED8C365A9.jpeg The pat...

Re: Where Do You Get Your Wool?

OKAY! Quick update! I received both pieces of wool, and I’m excited to start in on some new cloaks! First I received the very tightly woven olive green twill/gabardine/whipcord I initially posted about above. As you may recall, it was listed as 80% wool, 20% poly. This stuff really is VERY tightly w...

Re: How to dress an Elf?

All other specific reference to primary sources from Tolkien’s writings aside, I have always felt that it makes sense for the elves to wear a really streamlined mixture of functional and decorative clothing - and wherever possible, to combine form and function so that the form IS the function, if th...
