Longsword belt video
I think this may be of interest to some individuals here. The individual making the video is Tod of Tod's stuff, a store selling high quality medieval weapons and sundry. He has some other interesting videos as well, but this one on the fastening of a longsword belt is particularly applicable. https...

All of the red portions on the pommel in the picture linked by Kortoso are garnets. This is the method https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloisonn%C3%A9 Jewels on scabbards are placed in the metal fittings.

Re: unconventional alternate source for tunics and clothing
The cut of clothing over there hasn't really changed since early centuries AD. Another source is the indian Kurta which can be found with embroidered accents. They also tend to have more form fitting sleeves which is the style of European cultures opposed to the straight sleeves on the middle easter...

Re: "Small" New Project, and some thoughts
Somewhere to find ideas might be the use of the real life sgian dubh or sgian achlais, usually concealed Scottish knives. The modern wear of the knife is just tucked into a stocking, but I seem to remember reading an article about real use of the knife a few years ago.

Re: Leather Armor
I have sets of gauntlets, bazubands, and knees from thorvaldr. It's all good stuff, does the job and is light, but the stitching is distinctly modern material and the rivets are two piece jobs. It's all nice and I definitely use it, I just don't intend the leather to be the outside layer when my fig...

Re: Quiver Mk. III
I think that a star ornament like that is a perfect task for pewter, it's cheap, stays a bit ductile, doesn't rust, and gets a good patina.

Human guardsman with short spear, shield, short axe, dagger, whittle tang knife, bedroll, and scrip. I'm wearing a heavy cloth gambeson and other accoutrements, nasal helmet is strapped to the bedroll. Leaving the large weapons with the innkeeper, spear and shield, I would go to conduct a field inte...

Re: "Small" New Project, and some thoughts
I would go for the boot too, you might go out without a hood on a hot day but you would never leave without your boots. Also, the soft fabric of a hood is easily searched and the extra weight might draw attention to the hiding place. On locks, I've looked into those a little bit before and they are ...

Re: Water Skins- query
Proper botas are not covered with leather, the bladder or stomach is durable enough by itself. Water skins are the same way, just animal skins bound off at the limbs and filled with water. So far as I know, nobody in our group has used this sort of water carrier since they are not generally availabl...

Re: Patrol into Rhûn
I see the padded ring being worn in between a coif or cervelliere and early greathelms, like here: http://www.themcs.org/armour/knights/Wells%20Cathedral%20effigy%201240%20631.JPG My helm is based on the olmutz helm which has holes around the rim and no surviving interior. Many people lace up a sort...

Re: Patrol into Rhûn
Well Rhun is well off to the north of Mordor, it's just bordering Dale which is why it worked for this scenario. I think the Sierra Nevadas could pass for the Iron Mountains. I'm not very familiar with the terrain up there, you can decide for yourself what it seems the most like. Thanks Ringulf, I h...

Comanche National Grasslands, down in a few canyons. It was a great place to hike, I had a whole day there but I could have spent a week hiking.

Re: Patrol into Rhûn
First was right, naturally. These were taken in the grasslands of Colorado and was one place I visited while on a 3500 mile road trip that way. I've got nearly everything now, just gotta wait for my ceramics and axe to arrive and then I'll just be improving items.

Patrol into Rhûn
A slow decrease in activity in the East begged some attention from the men of Dale so a scouting patrol is sent into flats to discern their disposition. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/19219622/New%20folder%20%282%29/2013-09-30%2017.55.28.jpg Following the water and searching for traces of troop...

Re: Made a poplar scabbard core
Ah, that's a bit better. The title of the thread says scabbard core, so I assumed you meant it's the liner for a scabbard.
