Re: Identifying Swords (somewhat urgent)

Well I learned something new myself. I didn't know that about the stiffness of earlier blades. I guess I was picturing more the extremely tapered, diamond cross section swords rather than the viking era swords I was talking about. I don't actually own any of either myself so I was speaking off of st...

Re: Identifying Swords (somewhat urgent)

If it's a modern replica it'll be easy to tell by brand. If there's some identification saying that it's Windlass, Cold Steel, Hanwei, Del Tin, Lutel, Darksword Armory, or--fingers crossed--Albion, such as a makers mark or certificate of authenticity, it'll be a pretty safe bet. If the blade says &q...

Re: Nemo's Ranger Kit

I finally covered the bottom limb of my bow and I put some tassels on it so it matches my tomahawk. I went for the same sort of thing with this: primal, Native American stylization while still looking refined and European. http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr169/Nemo_of_Calh/IMG_0239-1.jpg?t=133868...

Re: Nemo's Ranger Kit

Alright, so this thread's really not just "soft kit" anymore. I like keeping things in one place, though, so I don't clutter up forums. But I have pictures! http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr169/Nemo_of_Calh/Gear%20Pics/IMG_0184-1.jpg?t=1338150169 http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr16...

Here's the final version of the tomahawk, in its element!

Re: Nemo's Ranger Kit

I made my tomahawk even better! http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr169/Nemo_of_Calh/2012-05-22_22-44-40_18.jpg?t=1337741525 I stained it to make it look more worn, added an additional forward grip, and added some accents. http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr169/Nemo_of_Calh/2012-05-22_22-44-52_51...

Re: Nemo's Ranger Kit

I've customized my tomahawk so that it's more of an effective weapon while still being just as effective of a tool, so now it's the best of both worlds. I'm probably going to make it my primary weapon instead of the sword. It's 22" long, so it's about the size of the average mass weapon. If I k...

Re: Nemo's Ranger Kit

Thanks!

A new bow would be great, especially a shorter one, and one that's heavier.

Re: Nemo's Ranger Kit

I'll keep that in mind. Most of the wear absolutely does have to come from using it constantly. There's no way I can replicate that. I guess what I mean is literal "battle scars," cuts and scrapes that look like they came from a fight where I was wounded. I'll definitely try to fade the st...

Re: Nemo's Ranger Kit

Thanks! The bow is a "Bear" fiberglass youth bow. It's green to begin with. In Dagorhir, bows can only be a maximum of 35 pounds, so that's what this is. I covered one limb with faux leather to make it look nicer without increasing the poundage, but then I forgot how I actually did that wh...

Re: Nemo's Ranger Kit

The clothing and the boots are not hand made. I got the boots custom from Catskill Mountain Moccasins, the top, shorter vest from Ravenswood Leather and the longer vest underneath from Red Falcon Armory.

Re: Nemo's Ranger Kit

Not specifically, though think it's relatively generic. I'd say maybe 16th or early 17th century? Don't quote me on that, though.

Re: Nemo's Ranger Kit

The ring is part of the guard. It's there to protect the back of my hand if a blade slides down towards it. It's a later period kind of thing. I didn't like siderings for the longest time, but they've grown on me over the years and now I love the look.

Re: Nemo's Ranger Kit

Thanks everybody! Deadextra, thank you for the comments. I love getting comments like yours because it means I can improve my kit. The colors are too vibrant, and that has been the most consistent critique I've received on the kit. My plan when I get home from college is to weather it. Put in a few ...
