Re: Existence of the Slipjoint?
Late to the party as usual. None of these two are slipjoints but if your new cheap option doesn't work out or you decide you want to upgrade to something a but more historical then Tod makes a few lovely little folders. I have one of his brass ones and it's just right. https://todcutler.com/collecti...

Re: A Beginner's Dreams
Welcome to the forums Wraith (funny name for a ranger that) Some excellent suggestions above and I have one more to suggest if you're open to it. I suggest it having no idea of where you're at in this regard but I do think its a very important and often neglected aspect of what we do. If you aren't ...

Re: "The Hunt fo Gollum" (2026)
Cheers mate, like I said it wasn't your particular statement. I'd have found a comment on conflict in Europe or the Middle East just as discombobulating here on the forums. That having been said I do find it funny when folks put Jasksons works up on a pedestal. There's so much in the LoTR trilogy wh...

Re: My hard kit for long treks (update)
Your kit is always good to see Vins. Have you made the haversack waterproof in any way? I'd be a bit concerned with it on the back of your bag that any shower may damage the dry food within.

Re: "The Hunt fo Gollum" (2026)
I think we can all agree that Rings of Power was drivel without bringing modern politics onto the forums  For my part I love that the MERF is one of few places I can come which is free of ALL that rubbish, a place that exists solely for enjoyment of Middle Earth by like minded individuals. ...

Loving those ordinary items which give the kit a finished sense. The bag of nails is a brilliant idea.

Things seem to have been a bit slow here the past few months but don't let that dissuade you from starting or joining any conversations! It's heading into nicer weather in my part of the world so hopefully theres some outings soon.

Re: Lanolin question
Not sure on your side of the pond but there is a company here called woolube (classy I know) who do all kinds of lanolin from spray bottles through to thick grease. Depending on how heavy duty you want to go they would have a product it's just a matter of availability. https://woolube.com.au/product...

Re: Thoughts on Civil War "Dog Tents?"
Dog tents are only really useful in the event that you have enough warmth from either the ambient temperature or your bedding to have two whopping great holes at either end. We have a five metre longtent set up in the highlands and despite all care being taken in selection of campsite and facing it ...

Re: CLOSED Viking Shoes from GDFB size 38 never worn
My experience is that the only way to make truly waterproof period shoes is by the use of sealskin or other naturally waterproof hide. It doesn't matter the amount of waterproofing you do, after several hours in the snow or mire leather shoes soak through. It's actually a bit liberating though as yo...

Greetings Wyrdmake and welcome to the forums, it always makes me happy seeing newcomers express that feeling of finally finding something they didn't quite know they were looking for. I like that you're planning towards a goal of a longer trip next year as having a goalpost makes everything accounta...
