Re: Clothing review - Oldcraft Workshop

That's pretty smart! I will definitely have to try this method.

Re: Clothing review - Oldcraft Workshop

I'm curious how you fasten your leg-wraps. Do you use period hooks, or do you tuck/tie the ends?

Re: A Ranger's Bedroll

I'm personally leaning to using a strap/tump line, as my clothing layers are pretty warm as is, and the extra amount of surface from the horseshoe roll might get pretty steamy.

Re: A Ranger's Bedroll

Greg, thanks for linking to that edition of Edge of the Wild. There is a lot of good stuff there. Elleth, your article gave me some better insight into the strap/tump line method and I appreciate it. Harper - The video you shared was very useful too. That presenter made some good points for how to r...

A Ranger's Bedroll

Hail, fellow rangers. For those that carry a bedroll, how do you - well - carry it? Do you roll it up and attach it to something else? Do you have a carrying system attached to it? Do you run a belt or rope through it? Also, do you normally carry it diagonal across the back, or has anyone carried it...

Revitalizing an old pipe

Hey rangers. Any tips for revitalizing an old pipe? I've got a nice long-stem pipe, but it's 20 yrs old and very dry. Can't tell if it is cracking, but it looks solid so far. Is there a way to clean it and bring the wood back to life?

Way to get out there! Practice makes perfect, and that is a great shelter to experiment with.

Re: In Search of the Many-Rayed Star

Just to pop in and add an update, but the above mentioned maker - Aurora at HandMadeRevolution - is indeed now working on a star brooch for the Ranger community. Final designs should be shared in about a week, I'm told.

I do love this style also. Please know that I would also get in line for a production run.

Re: A Tale of Two Kits

I've definitely played with a heavier armor loadout than what I usually do. It consists of a modified spangenhelm, hauberk, and hardened bazubands. I love bazubands. I fought with them in the SCA, under my tunic. Hard to beat for integrated elbow protection. Is your helm dome shaped or conical on t...

A Tale of Two Kits

As someone who is pursuing a 3rd Age Dunedain Ranger of the North persona, I am thinking that I want to build two separate kits (I know, ha, the money!!). One kit to represent the typical, everyday look of a Ranger who might be tasked by Aragorn to guard the Shire or the roads around Bree. This woul...
