Re: What's everyone working on?
Wilhelm: I like the socketed ones with the 'eared leaf' blade Thanks, they are a copy of elven arrows obviously. The issue is they weigh 750gr all by themselves and the socket is too small for anything over 5/16. I have put a couple together but I have to shoot them out of my 103# bow and they don'...

Re: Existence of the Slipjoint?
Well I did so and my wife laughed and said "I've already ordered it for you." She's a keeper. I'm very excited for it to come in. I'm happy for you (don't forget pics!!), if we didn't have the help and support of our nearest&dearest we'd get nowhere. While I'm a firm advocate for gett...

Re: Day hike to test a snapsack
Thank you! My hair was a total mess that day, usually it's not so frizzy and unkempt. But I am happy it looks hobbitish, as I don't think my height or build does. I think your build looks about right really for a habitual traveller and (not trying to be rude here) common folk (tillers of soil rathe...

Re: Existence of the Slipjoint?
I think they'd be perfect. I really like the simple horn one. It is very much on the list to get when funds allow, and I think absolutely beautiful. I'll point out that as a Hobbit, birthdays are very important (feel free to mention that to the wife.... While leaving the right page on Tod's website...

Re: Day hike to test a snapsack
You've got naturally Hobbit hair and the shirt looks good. I've made and used slowmatch before (my 'other hat' is Redcoat Napoleonic).... I recommend putting the striker back quick before Herself notices you've nicked it :-) Have you looked on Ebay for linen? Thats where I get mine and I don't like ...

Re: Existence of the Slipjoint?
I could see Gaffer Gamgee using (a very worn) one of those plain brass handled ones, maybe the horn creature type in Sam's pocket...... Much to his Dad's disgust about him 'putting on airs' by having 'over pretty' tools A Gondorian noble would probably have the complex brass one and a common soldier...

I'm sorry about this.......
But if you're a fan of The Vikings , look away now My Mother told me, One day I would buy. A ton of good ores, And smelt them in the forge. Craft a fine axe, A coat of noble steel. Stand shoulder to my brethren. Hew many foemen, Hew many foemen. My Mother told me, One day I would buy. A ton of good ...

The thing is, for stuff like this Hobbits get a pass.
Most of ME is Dark Ages to Early Medieval, but The Professor made The Shire quite anachronistic.
Matches, Smoking pipes, and Mantle clocks to name but a few.

Athfwyn, Greetings
I like the pinafore and hood, I think you've caught the right 'feeling'..... Very Hobbity looking walking stave (and 'Stoor Boots' too, this is a woman who is out travelling in all weathers... Not just a gentle stroll to a friends house)

Something like this perhaps?
Its from a re-enactment supplier (and only £12) who covers the Napoleonic Period, I think its a backspring rather then a friction

Re: Waterproofing for Canvas
Well your options are Oilskin/oilcloth, Waxed (like a Barbour jacket) or Lanolin..... I'd suggest watching this vid by Iodo before deciding on a 'Slicker' or not https://youtu.be/2KXIol9wjEo?si=EKRtPZmAnpPnhP9e Both Iodo and I are UK based, so we have experience with bad* weather. Where in the world...

Nice gear, much better pallette.Looks less costume and more clothes I see that you can wear the cloak over everything and your picture twelve shows an interesting side effect.... I had to look twice to recognise it as a human form, try adding a veil for maximum face-on ranger sneakiness. Yes, I agr...
