Re: Lanolin question

I've used this, I think on advice of Ursus once upon a time: https://www.etsy.com/listing/90511095/2-oz-mamabear-lanolizing-wool-spray-you?variation0=577848387 ... but I confess, I didn't notice a difference in the wool birrus I tried it on. (I sprayed one half of the thing down, let it sit, and wo...

Lanolin question

I'm working on a few new wool garments and one for certain I'd like to treat with lanolin. Are there any recommended brands that have worked well?

Thanks,
Andy

Re: Arrow build

How much twist have you put on those fletchings? Hey, I didn't see the first question. Sorry. I'll post some pics hopefully showing the twist. I can't honestly say if its a deep or shallow twist. I just adjust the jig so the base of the feather has the most surface contact with the arrow shaft.

Wilhelm wrote: Tue Feb 20, 2024 2:57 am Those look great, good job on the nocks. Are you using glue or tape for the fletchings?
Thanks Wilhelm,

I use glue. I've never had any experience with tape. Of course I only do small batches.
your arrows look amazing btw.

Re: Arrow build

Nice arrows! and your nocks are made with patience and precision, some beauties! I love natural feathers too, more flexible and resistance than the treated ones. Normally, with feathers cut like your grey ones, your arrows will be more silenced when the arrow is flying. With feathers with long tip,...

Re: Arrow build

How much twist have you put on those fletchings? I do like making use of the natural angle of the barbs, although I tend to just nip the trailing corner off. Not a hard crop like the grey arrow..... I'll have to see if I've got any left of my handcut fletchings. Wild turkey does look a lot nicer th...

Arrow build

Batch of arrows to go with the new bow. Douglas Fir shafts, natural barred wild turkey feather and a few yellow for 3D ranges. https://i.imgur.com/x0CK0yF.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/1lyGWyc.jpeg I use various grains of sandpaper glued to craft sticks to finish the nocks. https://i.imgur.com/UfnrrKV.jp...

Great to see you out there working the basics.
Here’s a list we used to teach during the stalking and hide site portion of one of our schools. There’s a lot of variants of this, but they’re good bullets to keep in mind.

There's no burr's in the eyelets or along the needles and they're very sharp. So far, there's no issue going through period weaves.

Short sword/messer

I’m looking to move this Lonelywolf Forge Messer style short sword. It’s a stout blade but easy to wield. I’ve cut Tatami, beef ribs, bone-in shoulders and deer legs. All with no damage to edge. It does have a lot of authority in the cut. Blade 25” Width 1 7/8” Grip. 6” Wt. 2lb 10oz Think I paid aro...

Re: New sword soon!

That is not a Noble blade for great deeds in battle under the bright Sun, that is a necessary tool for desperate bloody work in the dim of the forest and the empty places between where People live. Nice bit of kit, let us know how she feels and cuts I feel like I should know that quote. I think it’...
