Re: What's your opinion on a forum update?
There seems to be a general consensus that a few minor tweaks, adjustments and some tidying up is not a bad idea. If it pleases the group I can go through this thread and get a list of those items that were viewed favorably in one place (probably a new thread to leave this one open or more discussi...

Whoah what's going on here?!??!?
Hey guys, I'm updating the forum software, and doing the groundwork for some of the changes that have been discussed in the MER Website Talk forum . Other than some basic house cleaning (like restoring forum descriptions that were never meant to go away), I don't intend to change much without consul...

Re: Numenorean Heraldry
Ok, this makes more sense than what I got on the discord channel. You should also look up the Numenorean Design thread ( https://middleearthrangers.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3152 ) The Numenorean design we have from Tolkien can be broken into representational and geometric motifs. Most of th...

Let us not forget, Narsil was a dwarven sword. Made by Telchar of Nogrod. (Which sounds a lot like Novgorod BTW)

Re: A large leather barrel costrel.
...So, I went to a party supply store and got some big, 24" latex balloons. I put one in the hole, blew it up with my air compressor, tied it off and left it to dry. Worked amazingly. I'll definitely use the balloon for future (maybe smaller) canteens. Yeah, I did a similar thing for my costre...

Like your stitching. Is it a spcific style, or your own devising?redhandfilms wrote: ↑Tue Sep 13, 2022 6:22 pm Putting together my first kit for a multiday trek in October. Re: On the Subject of Star Brooches
EDIT: Well holy cow, look what I just found with a quick Google search! Those are seriously cool looking, I had never thought of doing a penannular star broach but now I see it it does make a lot of sense Silly point of order. Those are annular brooches. Penannular have an opening. (there is also a...

Re: How far would a ranger range?
I agree with Forge Corvus, our problem is that our sole data point is not a common Ranger. Aragorn was, according to Gandalf, "the greatest traveller and huntsman in this age of the world". However, at Weathertop (really, any time before meeting Bilbo at the Hall of Fire), he is presenting...

Re: Thinking about the birrus...
So yeah, plenty of precedence for woolen garments being worn un-hemmed, as far as I am aware (especially outer garments). Yes, this really only works with well fulled cloth (like a Melton or a Hudson Bay Blanket). This probably wouldn't work for the Birrus' broacloth, or even the MER old standby, a...

Re: Rings of Power- Your thoughts?
- "detachable party hoods" ... wait. detachable from what? Do dwarves have formal hoods that button (presumably they have buttons?) to capes or something? I actually am attempting this with my latest cloak. There is a rather common 14th c. Short caped hood that is often worn under the clo...

Re: On the Subject of Star Brooches
I have also made these ones based on the forum masthead (and with 3D design work from Elleth).
Alas I have not figured out a good peri-oid pin back for any of my star brooches. The pewter they are made with is seriously resistant to solder.

Elrond had to read the runes on Orcrist and Glamdring, but the Great Goblin knew them on sight.
Just saying.

Re: What's your opinion on a forum update?
And respectfully, I disagree with the categorizing of an inclusivity statement as "ideological." I don't think it is too much to say that a short statement declaring that we welcome all regardless of "race, color, sex, age, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identi...

Re: What's your opinion on a forum update?
Hey Guys, I'm not against updates, but I don't have time to make them. If there are any long time (i.e. trusted) forumites out there who are technically saavy and want to put their hand to it, I'd be happy to share access to the server. As for upload size limits, etc. most of these are capped becaus...
