Re: Re-creation, re-enactment, LARP and Cosplay...
Damn Manveruon! It would take me a month to put together that many words. Well laid out and informative. Some time ago I looked up what recreation and re-enactment each meant. It’s my understanding that re-enactment is more specific with accurately portraying events, such as a Revolutionary war batt...

Re: Quick trek
I've said it elsewhere but this is really inspirational stuff. I can't express how impressive I think it is that you've come back into the hobby after so long and are still at the top of your game for kit, skills and ability to tie it all into an authentic portrayal. Keep going man, I'll catch up e...

Re: Arrow deflection
Arrows are probably easier to work out where they came from, after all you do have a long stick pointing the way. I fully believe that some Elves would spend an idle century or two messing around with that sort of thing. I’m referring to after the glance off of something and re-direct. I understood...

Re: Arrow deflection
You’ve got an excellent point there, Andy! I’ve seen some arrows deflect in some truly bizarre directions when shooting outdoors! In a scenario like the one you’re describing, I feel like the fact that bows and arrows are an awful lot less noisy than firearms just makes it all the more difficult to...

Re: Arrow deflection
Interesting, I have never shot in a forest due to a combination of not having anywhere to try it and a general fear of loosing arrows, this makes me wonder if it might be possible to deliberately deflect arrows to hide your location, probably not for me but maybe for an elf? If I had a few trashed ...

Re: Dry goods and other musings
Best weight to energy food I have discovered is fruitcake. Easy to pack and consume on the trail. Learn to make waxed linen to wrap stuff like cheese and sausage Hey Rysgil, Are you referring to a specific fruitcake recipe? I’m having unpleasant flashbacks to my Mom’s fruitcake. And how are they as...

Arrow deflection
I look at this as a Ranger who's having arrows launched his way. At least with gunfire you usually have an idea of the direction it's coming from. Trying to I.D. that bowman while seeking cover I feel is very important. Especially with an arrow that has changed course. It would be easy to end up on ...

Re: MERF Random Adventure Pictures
Went out for a trek today. My plan was for about five miles on trails. The goal was just getting some miles in and maybe work selecting and moving into a camp site. That changed😏 It ended up being 5.9 miles, only 1.1 on trails. While passing through a small vale I decided to follow it up the ridge a...

Re: Keeping Watch
I’ve pulled security plenty of times while out on patrols. It’s especially fun when there was zero threat(training scenarios). Often wondering what hell am I doing awake looking into empty darkness. Fun times. But training mirrors actual missions. I think it’s just another aspect of being out on a R...

Wow
I read all the newsletters yesterday. That was my second time through. It is simply amazing how much work Greg and the others at MERS put into creating their parameters for the accurate re-creation of Middle-earth. The research, organization and the passing of knowledge, all top notch. My efforts pa...
