Trek/kit shake out

Did a little trekking on Friday around Cheyenne Mountain State park. I followed a small trail on the west side of the park then left it and made for a ridgeline I’ve been anxious to explore. It runs off the south end of Cheyenne mountain and to reach it I had to skirt around the border of NORAD. The...

Andy, what are the stats on the bow in your pic? I love it!

Thanks Barandir, it’s a rawhide backed osage from Ryan Gill/HuntPrimitive. Great shooter. Throws a pretty fast arrow and the quietest bow I have.

Re: What's everyone working on?

Finished some much needed boot maintenance. Removed the fold down flap and repaired some stitching. Next, a good coat of Pecards.

Re: What does everyone focus on?

What Eofor and others pointed out, absolutely. I’ve been doing what we call Historical Fencing for years, the term eventually being used in order to differentiate it from the HEMA tournament scene. Nothing wrong with folks getting together and competing, it’s a good pastime for many, but as soon as...

Leather canteen recipe

Hey All,
Last time I made canteens/costrels I used a 50/50 blend of beeswax and brewers pitch. Is that still the preferred recipe.
Thanks for any input.

Re: What does everyone focus on?

Not sure how I missed this original post either. I've done a fair bit over the past 20 years in both Eastern and Western martial arts but have lapsed recently. German Longsword will stand you in good stead. If I were to offer any advice it would to never stop questioning your application of techniq...

Re: What's everyone working on?

Well, not my best work, but tough and functional. The seam stitched up fairly well but I didn’t allow enough excess for separation as the leather dried. It ended up with about a 1/8” gap the entire length, thus the strip to cover the stitching. Eofor, I assumed I’d need a chap to protect the tip, bu...

Re: What's everyone working on?

Making a scabbard for my new messer. Very nice lines on that one, did you line it at all? Also I'm curious why you think it needs a chape? Personal preference? Thanks Eofor. Not lined. I think a lining would be an issue if it gets soaked. I got rained on for days back in Germany and everything was ...

I'm not sure what I'll do for a Chape. May form one out of hardened leather.

Re: What's everyone working on?

Making a scabbard for my new messer. I made a couple years ago using three pieces of poplar. This time I'm using two. I trashed two boards before finally getting a good fit. That whole chisel thing is not as easy as it looks, at least for me. The blade fits good, a bit tight. Draws easy when holding...

Are you looking for a historical source and reference for mittens, a pattern to make your own, or a trusted crafter to purchase from?
Hey!
Patterns to make my own or a trusted crafter.

Thanks for the response.
