Re: Lets talk Eorlingas.

I love the helm, Eofor. It really captures the cultural feel of the Rohirrim while seeming realistic and not too heavily ornamented for a commoner to own/wear.

Re: Pemmican - Food for thought

When I was working as a butcher, we actually made and sold several batches of pemmican, and I even took some camping on a bachelor party trip as some good snack food. We added dried fruit to ours, and while I have seen others say that affects the shelf life of the pemmican, that makes zero sense to ...

Re: Minyacálë - Numenorean Eket (Process Thread)

I love the direction this project is taking aesthetically! Btw I definitely envision the eket to be a blade not dissimilar to a Swiss degen, kind of long for a knife but kind of short for a sword. I actually own a coustille from their production run with Kult of Athena, and can definitely vouch for ...

Re: Design for Dwarf Seax

I’ve been thinking a lot about Dwarven design motifs lately, and how much I love the geometric hard-angles that Weta leaned into, but how I also love a lot of more intricate intertwining Norse and Saxon influenced designs, and in the end I think I’ve begun to form an idea of Dwarven aesthetics that...

Re: On Ekets

I was thinking maybe something like a cinquedea? Wide and elegant. I know its rennaisance era, but I think it could fit. Since the cinquedea was itself inspired by blades from antiquity (particularly Greek blades), I feel like this would be an excellent comparison! I myself envision the eket as som...

Re: Two Tod Cutler knives to try out

Nice! Thank you for your experience with his stuff. I just recently received both of these, and while the edge bevel on the dagger is a little steeper than I usually put on my working knives, it was very easy to get it shaving sharp and it takes curls from wood very well! The seax I got came unsharp...

Re: Anyone cook a goose over their fire?

Never done a goose over a fire but I've done chickens over hot coals! We coal-roasted relatively small chickens at one of the farm to table restaurants I've worked at and it turned out pretty well! Idk how different goose fat is to duck fat but if you can get some of the excess fat that usually hang...

Re: White Handled Knife

I've always envisioned a more graceful version of a bauernwehr or rugger as Legolas' sidearm. Something with maybe a 12-16 inch blade, but lacking the guard structure of a smaller messer. I also don't really like the visuals of a traditional nagel for elven design, so I usually imagine it with a sim...

Re: New Kingston Arms swords!

Andy I agree with your assessment on training with your blade of choice, I currently don’t have a school but want to get into it once I sort out some other life priorities. As for sharpening sword sized blades, I actually have no experience doing so. I have extensive experience sharpening my own kni...

Re: Lets talk Eorlingas.

Thank you! It’s all entry level soft kit. I have plans to update my pants and surcoat/jerkin to dyed braintan, but I need to move and get settled in a new job first. There’s also a pair of boots I’ve got my eye on to update mine at some point as well.
