Re: Extreme Budget Authenticity: Thrifty Thorsbjerg Trousers

Udwin, the ones I posted about were the Marx-Etzel trousers, very similar to the Thorsberg but constructed entirely out of one piece of fabric. I will see if I can get a pic of mine up.

Re: Safety In Historical Trekking. Armed & Prepared.

Mark Baker has a story in his first book about he and his brother on a canoe trip that went very bad. To the point that he had though t his brother had been washed away down stream. Fortunately things worked out but it just goes to show that we may be dressing up and pretending to be someone else, b...

Goat is a great leather! The Romans even made their tents out of it. It is very strong for it's weight and takes dye well.

Re: Tinder fungus

I have had great success with the charred punk wood. Amadou was a big trade item for the French because it can be difficult to find really good substitutes in the wild.

Re: WAXED GARMENTS

I used to have a Filson waxed hat,,that was the most uncomfortable thing ever. It did not breath, and condensation would build up on the inside.

Re: The Jewel Game

We used to this all the time in scouts. Sometimes we would also have everyone stand in one place and look at say,,the camp. Then everyone would turn around,,something would get changed and everyone would turn back around. Whomever noticed the change fastest won.

Re: Overnighter in Arkansas

Well, two friends and I just got back from our overnighter. It was a short hike, but it was into some nice country. We attempted to find the second waterfall but didn't have any luck. With bad weather,,which we thankfully avoided,,and the humidity we decided it was best to make camp. http://i460.pho...

Couldn't NOT drop this in here. Angus Trim has a finished short-ish sword up for sale that belongs in a Ranger's hands, if anyone has $950 to burn and needs something that just seems to fit. That is a sweet sword ! That is kinda cool,,weird seeing that Mainz blade with that cross guard, handle, and...

Re: Authentic SCA event

No, unfortunately there are no Roman groups in Arkansas anymore,,there is the fort though. Most who come to the Roman events there are from out of state. I am trying to start a civilian/gladiator group though.
