Re: natural dyes

I have used an iron oxide dye on wood before, to get black. You soak some steel wool in vinegar for a few weeks, and then rub the solution onto the wood with a rag. This also works to dye veg tan leather black. It only works on veg tan leather though, and it's pretty cool when it starts turning blac...

natural dyes

I found this website awhile back. I have used the sumac leaves with sucess to get a nice shade of gray before. I am interested in trying some of the others, these only really work on 100% natural fabrics.

Re: Few pouches and a toy :)

Have you tried the sling yet? If so, how's it work? I have been wanting to try one, but am afraid I will knock myself in the face.
Here's a neat tie dedicated to slinging.

Re: Post your sparring gear: Livesteel, wasters, shinai, boffers

Revival makes a firm rubber hammer head that is similar to a hatchet. It is fairly firm though and usually used in armored sparring, they have an SCA and a WMA version. http://revival.us/talhoffer1467rubberhammerhead.aspx When I did SCA I used an axe, I made the head by just cutting some thick close...

I wear a 10.5 New Balance running shoe, and these mocs fit snug when I wear a single layer cotton sock with them. The sole is a foam rubber type with a slight heel, you can still feel the ground real well with them, but it really cuts down on the rocks.

Re: Ranger Cloak Colour

I agree that grey is porbably the best color you can use to blend into just about any terrain. I have seen people in gray literally dissapear into green vegetation, and rocky terrain. A light brown or tan would probably be good also. One thing to think about is, "What color are the wild animals...

Re: Woodcraft a Ranger's Library

Here's a good one to add. It was written shortly after the Civil War by a U.S. Army officer. It concerns crossing the prairies to get to the west. It has some very good info on traveling with animals, shelter, food caches, and many other things. While it applies mainly to 19th centruy America, alot ...

Hello from Arkansas

Hello all, My name is Marvin, long time lurker first time poster. I have always had a love for Tolkien, ever since seeing the old "The Hobbit" and "LOTR" movies on tv in the 70's and 80's, and my dad reading "The Hobbit" to me as a kid. I have always been involved in so...
