Re: Horses
Sounds like my Curly gelding, he hates dogs but when he was still a stallion you never would have known it. Very much a "in your back pocket" horse. But we are not breeding anymore so we had him gelded a few years ago, now he's over with the Curly mares. We had a half mustang, half curly g...

Re: Where to Begin?
Welcome to the group appalachianranger
I'm near the northern end of the Appalachian Trail myself, no good Renn Faire's nearby though, the closest are down in Mass/Conn/Rhode Island.

Re: Dunedain Star Brooch...
Something to keep in mind with the discussion between 5 and 6 points, Elendil came from the island of Numenor, which had 5 "regions". A quote again from "Letters"; "Elendil and his sons were the chiefs of the small 'faithful' party that took no part in the attempt to seize p...

Re: Dunedain Star Brooch...
There is also an off-hand reference to support a six-rayed version in "The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien" in letter #211 written to Rhona Beare he compares Numenorean theology as "Hebraic". The full quote; "The Numenoreans of Gondor were proud, peculiar, and archaic, and I think...

Re: Dunedain Star Brooch...
It wouldn't be a hard design to do, a simple 5-pointed star, maybe with some etching like the forum design to dress it up some. Pewter would probably be the best material, you can get blocks of it from places like Jas. Townsend's and it's lead free/low temp melt point. Ernildhir, Tolkien was constan...

Re: Dunedain Star Brooch...
This is a scan from J.R.R. Tolkien Artist & Illustrator by Wayne Hammond and Christina Scull, It's a design for a dust jacket drawn by Tolkien and submitted to the Allen and Unwin publishers. It was deemed too expensive to print though. http://i478.photobucket.com/albums/rr145/Orofyn/Ranger/RoTK...

Re: Dunedain Star Brooch...
I actually like the star they have on the map of Ansteorra, it doesn't look as chunky at the heraldic device on the shield above. Maybe because the "N" in the middle fools the eye. I'll see if I can fire up GIMP and play with something.
