Re: Mittens
I had to tweak the scale to make them fit my hands, but this is the pattern I used for my winter mittens (braintan over fur):

THAT WAS FOR YOU?!?
...Of course it was, I shouldn't be surprised at this point.

Re: On Elves, Bloodlines, & Beards
Great question! Honestly, off-hand I would actually guess very few Gondorians or northern Dunedain of the late Third Age were beardless. Let's make up a number and say 3 out of 10? I feel like the implied situation is that by the war of the Ring, the 'blood of Numenor' is super rare, which would fur...

Re: The Fall Of Numenor
I have a sneaking suspicion that the timing of the book's release was intended to coincide with the end of the first season of The Amazon Show (which is actually a positive, so new fans can see what the authentic Second Age looks like). Well, I was able to get my library's copy right before the holi...

Re: Regarding Trolls
They're different kinds of trolls. In the big picture, there actually seems to be an Increase in trollish intelligence between the two periods - at least for the explicitly Evil ones (Bill Huggins et al , while certainly malicious, are still just free agents at the time) In his 1960 post- LR revisio...

Re: (Re)dressing a Beorning - or, 'Aistan 2.0'
I have no idea about the local woodmen and northmen who made up the majority of Beorn's chiefdom, but I can easily imagine the skin-changing Beornings distinguishing themselves with similar techniques/materials!

Aistan 2.0 knife sheath
Since rolling out my ' Beorning 2.0 ’ this fall and having 30 miles on the latest MERS trek to work free some ideas that had been rolling inside my head, I realized that one key part of my existing Beorning kit that didn’t quite match my updated mental picture was Aistan’s knife sheath. The design w...

Re: Location/Persona that would fit Colorado Springs?
I'd love to hear anything you'd be willing to share on the Dunlendings, either here or in a more private setting! I've been digging into some of the history and lore behind the earlier men from the House of Bëor and the House of Haleth, and I personally find it really fascinating! I definitely thin...

Re: Location/Persona that would fit Colorado Springs?
Ah, perfect! I originally had the same issue with the Beornings and began that persona as one of the Woodmen (about whom we have zero direct information), but remember that the Beornings are really just the regional chiefdom under Beorn , of whom only a few are probably big, burly skin-changing type...

Re: Warm Greetings from a New Member!
Welcome! I'm pleased to hear you found your way here through exposure to the MERS, and that it sounds you have a good background for this adventure. It also helps that you're not afraid of a little research ; ) I also studied Anthro/Archeo in school, and started out more interested in Migration-era ...

Re: Location/Persona that would fit Colorado Springs?
Great scenery!, this really presents many opportunities for you. As you say, eastern CO is very Rohan-esque with its great plains, and the first two pictures say more 'American west' to me, but the latter pictures definitely suggest the Misty or White Mountains. The former is great as the Rockies al...

Re: Hygiene
So, I thruhiked the Appalachian Trail with my wife last year, and at six months it was a great way to really nail down what it takes to be comfortable and healthy while traveling long distances on foot in a variety of conditions. As our first long-distance thruhike we used modern gear but the experi...

Re: The Fall Of Numenor
I'm #4 in line to get my local library's copy, so I have to wait a while yet to read. Personally while I prefer Nasmith's illustrations, I'm always up to see Lee's interpretations. I heard an interview with Brian Sibley (the editor) recently, who said the Notion Club Papers were Not included, and (i...

Re: FINALLY Fleshing Out a Persona
It really does make things so easy that we can just change the millennium and have pretty-close to ready-made for late Third Age birth dates. (At least for Men...hobbits on the other hand are a total headache. Does one go with their actual birthday, or try to calculate an equivalent--since coming of...
