Re: Mannfall II

That's about 17 miles of travel. Probably split between two days, but it's quite a trek for many of us modern types.

Mannfall II

A Viking-Age group in the Czech Republic (or is it now Czechia?) MANNFALL is a new, educational-experimental concept of early medieval events that aims for a more intensive and progressive reenactment. Every event will be held at a different place with a different scenerio. Here are photos from the ...

Re: Field Archery

Cool! I can't tell from the video - mostly 3D game targets on the field course? About what range do people usually shoot at? I was afraid to show the course in detail, because they only trot out the 3D targets for contests ("club shoots") since the 3D targets are not free and fall apart a...

Re: Leather weight for boot soles?

Those are turnshoes. Don't be afraid of heavy leather, but be careful, some saddle leather is treated with some sort of wax and uh that won't do for soles. Here's a bit of a guide from some friends of mine. https://regia.org/members/kit/A%20beginners%20guide%20to%20turnshoes.pdf 5mm - 12-13 oz 3mm -...

Field Archery

Recently I made a short and simple video about Field Archery: _s9FRisl0SQ Many official archery ranges have Field Ranges in addition to their standard Practice Range. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Field_archery Here's a list of archery ranges in the USA, and most have field ranges: http://www.bestre...

Re: Weekend in Rivendell

We did indeed have a grand time. Our northern chapter met up with our southern chapter, totaling twelve worthy souls. Some were kitted out better than others, and we resolved to fix that in future meetings.
I'll share some photos and video when they are ready.

Re: Interesting article

The article makes brief mention of firemaking by friction, but I've yet to see clear evidence of this ever happening in Europe.
Got any clues?

Re: Tolkien Family In Talks To Sell LOTR TV Rights

One of the liabilities of TV drama versus the silver screen, is that the money depends on constant cliff-hanger situations, e.g.: "come back after these commercial advertisements to find out what happened to your hero!" Even in an HBO-like environment, the show-runners are tempted to leave...

I'm just curious whether this kind of quiver will work with all sorts of arrowheads. Target points are easy, of course, but what of broadheads?

Very interesting!

There's also an alloy of copper and gold called by the "Easterlings" shakudo.

Deeply envious at a gorgeous wilderness you can bushwhack and bivouac in! And a large, "with it" community as well!
