Re: New sword soon!

That is not a Noble blade for great deeds in battle under the bright Sun, that is a necessary tool for desperate bloody work in the dim of the forest and the empty places between where People live.

Nice bit of kit, let us know how she feels and cuts

Re: Dressing in Esgaroth and Dale?

I think we only really see two levels of Laketown society represented because there are only two, The Master (and I presume a few other families which we don't meet) and Everyone Else (the guards are EE's given, or more probably stopped out of their wages for, uniforms). Bilbo's kit as shown does lo...

Re: Field forge for a Dwarven Ranger

I trained as a smith way back (mid 80's) and I've been doing LARPing and Living History ever since.... Bush forges have fascinated me most of my adult life, that started when I read an article in British Blacksmith about a visiting smith from Togo and just how little gear he needed. It was when I wa...

Re: Field forge for a Dwarven Ranger

I'll start off saying Greetings Khazad and welcome Vestri son of Vaali. Our people are on the rise here at least So, a simple bush forge (like this ).... I've never liked bag bellows for solo use (its not so bad if you have a bellows-boy though). If the soil is fairly clay and you don't mind waiting...

On Ekets

I'm interested as to what we agree an Eket is and for that matter, is not (and I didn't want to derail Cevelentir's thread on their Custom piece) So, what I know. Its a Numenorean sidearm with a wide double edged blade between 12 and 18 inches long. What I think its not A leaf bladed short sword lik...

I couldn't remember which one that was.... Now I've had a look I think it would make a great companion for a Type XIV

Re: Is this sword Khazad?

Thanks Eofor, thats fairly close to my vision (and if I could make image-editing software work thats about what I'd of shown in the OP) For the pommel, I was thinking of a hollow square (set on the diamond) along the lines of the hollow ring used on Gallowglas swords. https://external-content.duckdu...

Re: Minyacálë - Numenorean Eket (Process Thread)

Exciting project! For what it's worth, Tolkien tells us what the length of an Eket should be: "28 : This was of a kind called eket: a short stabbing sword with a broad blade, pointed and two-edged, from a foot to one and a half feet long." -Unfinished Tales: The Disaster of the Gladden Fi...

Re: Is this sword Khazad?

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. I know what it is (Late Viking, High status and probably owned by an early Christian..... or at least a 'lip-service' Christian ). I was asking if other people thought the hilt (and specifically the guard) looked different enough to the more standardised "Huma...

Re: Treasure!

Rangers would have need of coinage for their less overt dealings with locals when necessary. I like adding a few extra non coin based trinkets to my purse thinking in the vein of certain groups having need of more than just coin. It all depends where your patrol takes you but I can see the wife of ...

Re: Dwarven Naming conventions

Australia is nickname ground zero, I've literally worked alongside people for over a year and didn't know their real names. Dad was stationed up in "The wet end" for a few years back in the 50's, he told me about it As I mentioned earlier in the thread many of Tolkeins Dwarves take names ...

Re: Dwarven Naming conventions

Me again.

I know that Barron has an older sister (its part of his backstory) and I even decided to name her Gudron, the part I'm up in the air about is weather to she would use her patronym or an Ick-name.

Shes a skilled cutler and married...... But I am at a loss for a good Ick

Is this sword Khazad?

I'm subscribed to Matt Easton's Youtube channel and I just watched this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyRXMNHt2oU . Its a sword type I'd not seen before, but the first thought that popped into my head is "That hilt looks Dwarvish". I know its not very WETA but I think that sometimes they...
