Middle Earth Re-enactor Census Discussion Page

There was an interest by some posters in being able to discuss Middle Earth re-enactment with others of a more general nature so I created a page where that can be done. Related to the Census page, this page is for further discussion. Here's the link: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Middle-Earth-Re-e...

Re: Color variations in "uniform" clothing

I think within Tolkien's world, the Rangers of the North were identified mainly by (1) the color of their garments (rusty browns and greens), (2) the weapons they carried (3) an emblem such as the Star brooch (4) the type of clothing they wore ( woodland-colored cloaks , with hood pulled up (see Str...

Looks really good. Really intimidating silhouette in a dark ally!

Re: Forum-Wide Lord of the Rings "Picture Book" Project Disc

Okay Greg, I had a tough time with this one but I think I'm going to do the scene where the Hobbits come to Tom Bombadil's doorway and hear Goldberry singing. Here's the quote - more of a paragraph: "Then another clear voice, as young and ancient as Spring, like the song of a glad water flowing...

Re: Hithlain

I agree with you Greg. I too felt sorta shameful for considering "man-made" rope but there seemed to not be an alternative to the Hithlain in natural - but I was wrong. It got me on a research kick and I thought about silk. Of course all I could find was this Japanese fetish rope which say...

Re: Middle Earth Re-enactor Census Page

Oops! I think I accidently moved Aaron's icon on the Google map. I think he's somewhere in Florida. Looked on the member list to try and email him to let him know since I am unsure of his original location but he's not listed there. If anyone knows where he was (Administrator Help!!), please either ...

Re: Middle Earth Re-enactor Census Page

Thanks Udwin. I did add myself to the map. This might be something that I might want to think about for the Census page but if it's a lot of people, may be kinda confusing with all the big balloons. Don't know.

Re: Middle Earth Re-enactor Census Page

The same Census has now been launched on Google Plus if you're not a Facebook fan. Just type in "Middle Earth Re-enactor Census on Google+ and you'll find it. Google+ does seem to be "less friendly" than Facebook so you might find it more to your liking. A map will be produced in both...

Middle Earth Re-enactor Census Page

For those of you who might not have seen the post on the Middle Earth Ranger Facebook page, there is a new site for helping Middle Earth re-enactors connect with each other in a given geographic region. You may be doing your Ranger persona within just a few miles of someone else and never know it. H...

Re: Pants

You don't wear undergarments with this set up. The flap is tapered like an upside down triangle and buttons at the top of the leg part (wish I could post pics but I always have trouble with the size here). There's enough material on the flap that it covers what needs to be covered but you can unbutt...

Re: Pants

Recently I gave some thought to Ranger trousers. I had an old pair of deerskin leggings from my 18th century days and decided to do something with them. To be honest, I wanted to add tops to them instead of using the traditional breech cloth and this day and age, you never know who you might offend ...

Thanks Taurinor. That dye does say it will work on nylons and polyesters. I like the silver grey. Now just to find a proper rope :!:

Re: Hithlain

Found some of the double braid dacron on Ebay in 1/2" - has high weight limit, good price but it's white. Don't know how the dacron would take a black dye that might make it grey. NEW 1/2" Double Braid Rope 8400Lbs BREAKING STRENGTH Manufactured in 2012 I looked at the rope on the other si...
