Re: First metal casting steps...
Very interesting casting projects!!! I've got a small casting setup over here... electric melt of up to 1350g copper/brass or 1550g silver. Mostly I use it to melt the scrap "web" left over from punching coin blanks into a flat bar 2" wide x 1/2" thick that I can roll out to mak...

Re: Dwarvish Axe
The handle decoration is burned using my old soldering iron, the one with the broken thermostat so it gets way to hot (which on wood works in my favor  ) I filed a worn out screw driver shaped tip so it was so thin it is almost a blade so I could get a fine line. I also spent about two hours pr...

Re: My first cloak, and a question (pic heavy)
The vest came out very nicely! With something short like that, I think the stiffer blanket material will be less of an issue than it would be in something like a tunic. Speaking of, that's a good looking shirt! I've always had a hard time with shirts-as-tunics, but that one seems to have a good len...

Iodo's Dwarf Kit - Progress and Updates
I have been doing a little on this project every now and again for some time, the head was less than £1 from a steam fair market in February, it took me till June to get round to finding a handle, and till now to finally do runes and leather work. Here it is  my first real piece of hard kit: I...

Re: My first cloak, and a question (pic heavy)
Dwarves are a tough aesthetic to get right I think. That's something I am learning  The trouble is the angular blocky element is what I like. Hopefully because I aim to keep everything I make functional it shouldn't go to far  I really like that blade shape in the picture, the one thi...

Re: A Dunedain Ranger's mess kit
Amazing, the detail on the brass (is it brass?) just makes it.

Re: My first cloak, and a question (pic heavy)
This stuff is great! I don't mean to pigeonhole you here, but your gear has a very Breelander feel to it. You'd fit in around Eriador, for sure! Glad you like it :P I am yet to make anything that is unquestionably dwarvish, so far I only have basics that would pass most places. When I get some leat...

Re: My first cloak, and a question (pic heavy)
I have finally made something with the leftover fabric :P and am pleased to report I still have enough left for a hood. Although I haven't yet found a coat (still looking) I can use to make a tunic. So here's my most recent creation: IMG_20171028_174002.jpg IMG_20171028_174018.jpg IMG_20171028_17404...

Re: My first cloak, and a question (pic heavy)
Very nice, thanks for sharing this infomation :P now i know that the trick is to buy a coat to cut up for fabric and not keep any origanal stitching at all (very good tip about pockets), next time I'm in a second hand store I will look out for something that will work. I think I will be sticking to ...

Re: My first cloak, and a question (pic heavy)
Fabric is for fabric. Blankets stay blankets. Something to think about, my cheap wool blend blanket is definitely not the best but due to lack of anything better it may have to do I think you definitely should think about making a wool tunic! I wear a wool tunic in the winter in Virginia, which I b...

Re: My first cloak, and a question (pic heavy)
Once you wear it a bit and see how the straps settle, you might be able to switch to solid straps stitched together at a comfortable angle. You could also potential swap the ring out for a heavy leather plate with slots for the straps (maybe something like the center plate for a saddle breastplate?...

Sounds awesome, all I have on my doorstep is town.
Maybe if you tied a piece of leather chord around your knife hilt with the knot on the side of the blade, you would be able to tell the difference in the dark?
