Re: Where do you Range?
I mostly range in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California. It's beautiful country, but the wilds are mostly held as "Preserves" and there is no BLM land, and it's pretty crowded. I go out in as much of my Ranger/medieval gear as I feel comfortable, but I have yet to pull a "full monty&...

Re: Anyone know about bladder/skin waterskins?
One member of my Viking group led a class in making leather water bottels. Here's what I can pass on: - Choose belly hide, which is the most stretchy part of the cow skin. It's usually the cheapest as well. - Sew the halves together as well as you can. "Double" everything of course. - Soak...

You're lucky to find a place where you can make a campfire, wear swords, and hike about in costume without arousing interest from the authorities. Good on you!

Re: Jiu Jitsu
Keep in mind that "Jiu-Jiutsu" is how Brazilian practitioners spell their art (as opposed to traditional Japanese jujutsu). The tend to be more mat (tatamiwaza) and tournament focused.
I've spent some time in a Danzan Ryu dojo. It's really good stuff.

Re: Need advice ASAP
From where I'm sitting, the twist in the blade may not be bad enough to affect your cutting.
A decent smith could straighten it out for you.
I'm thinking that if you get or make a rigid wooden scabbard for it, it might stick in the scabbard.

Hail wanderers!
Thank you for letting me join this honorable encampment of Rangers. I've always loved the wilds; for most of my life, escaping there has been a solace. I have had the fortune to learn from some very knowledgeable woodsmen in my time as well. I started swinging a sword when I was in high school, many...
