Re: Grey wool cloak
It was made from a 100% wool blanket that I honestly don't like much as a blanket because it's thin but very dense. Cut a slit up the middle in landscape, cut a neck hole, etc. I wonder if it's worth lanolizing, or if I should keep it as breathable as possible? It can actually be worn with the clasp...

Grey wool cloak
It was suggested that I post some pictures of the cloak I made, and I figured here was the place to do so: https://i.postimg.cc/MHtRQVH5/PXL-20201223-182928358.jpg Opened up it has an almost coatlike feel https://i.postimg.cc/V6g5G1wL/PXL-20201223-183050549.jpg Detail on the clasp https://i.postimg....

Re: North of the Angle
Yeah that travel hiatus really doesn't surprise me - I vaguely remember (I think maybe from QI?) That there were peasants in the north of France (and probably other places, but that's what was mentioned) who virtually hibernated until the 19th century, like sleeping 18 hours a day and getting up jus...

Dunedain vs Ranger
Back in my teens, I tended to use terms like Dunedain and ranger [of the north] interchangeably, and this is obviously incorrect. However, I still wonder what the actual relationship between these two concepts is Like, obviously there are non-ranger dunedain, and the general consensus here seems to ...

Re: North of the Angle
And yeah I think it definitely helps with bringing the reality to it, there's also the seriously practical considerations that while a lot of the stereotypical 'ranger kit' is historically developed for cool/temperate climates and while I can kind of get away with it if I'm camping locally, which is...

Re: North of the Angle
I'll definitely have to check it out!
The dunedain are also ultimately descended from the people of Beor right?

Re: North of the Angle
Yeah, the lossoth are at least around the ice bay I know (and I know their ancestors used to inhabit forodwaith but I'm not sure if we know how much they still do or if they're clustered mostly around the sea I'm talking about the region of eriador between the angle and forodwaith though, which best...

Re: Hello!
Probably a man (well, woman) of the wilds of Eriador of some kind, not sure whether a ranger specifically or not Though I do plan, regardless of character (though mirkwood elf is a second, if less likely, possibility), on making one of those mirkwood camoflague tunics, maybe try hunting turkey in it...

North of the Angle
What do people think about the lands to the north and west of the angle? It seems we know that the remnants of the Dunedain reside in the angle, and presumably range out from it a fair distance (if I recall correctly, Arathorn died in the ettenmoors), and there are the "poor wood-men and shephe...

Hello!
I figured it was worth introducing myself! I've generally been more involved in outdoors and traditional skills than I have in Tolkien's works (since I was a teen, anyway), but I recently got back into them and am excited to marry these two passions. I was genuinely pleasantly surprised to see this ...
