Re: D&D item weights are amusing.
I'm not a big fan of 5e. I think it is better than 4e. I prefer 3.5e or AD&D (1e). 3.5 had a spot check and a listen check which was important if you have a blind or deaf character. The "perception" check is faster to process but doesn't fit all situations. On the most part I like 4e ...

Pemmican - Food for thought
I came across this video on Townsend (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYDuOKI8maQ) about Pemmican and I was wondering if any of you actually made some and tried it as your exclusive food source for several days on a LARP or similar? I know you can mix nuts and berries with it but that really reduces...

Re: gambeson / jacks and water?
I just finished a walnut dye session, and it got me wondering - padded linen/wool armor has a lot of layers... and that much cloth can soak up a just ridiculously heavy amount of water. So for those of you who wear things these as part of your kit... does weather present a problem for you? Do you w...

Re: New utility/fighting knife
An example from here in Australia is that our laws classify a 'Flick knife or other similar device that has a blade that opens automatically by gravity or centrifugal force or by any pressure applies to a button, spring or device in or attached to the handle of the knife' as a prohibited weapon. Th...

Re: Southeast Ranger's Camp, May 19th-21st 2023, Dockery Lake, Georgia.
I understand. I'm working on upgrades, but "period" cook gear light enough for trekking seems to be one of the hardest things to find. I specifically got that grill as it folds up small enough to fit in the flint and steel kit I got. It also fits with the folding mini stove from my first ...

Re: New utility/fighting knife
Yikes! that sort of thing is why I am terrified of trying to post or import such things, once a pen-friend of mine who is in the US randomly decided to send me a knife he didn't want anymore because he knows I like such things, that got destroyed by customs before I ever knew it existed and it wasn...

Re: Show Me Your Hot Kits
I'm curious if anybody has tried using a waist cape? (Basically a cape around your waist to protect your backside more when sitting on things. It can be used to provide extra padding, insulation, mud/snow/water protection.

Re: Show Me Your Hot Kits
Since you aren't looking for accuracy you might considder a colonial style shirt which is shorter (won't collect heat from waist area), and has large puffy sleeves. They may LOOK very hot but they are the most comfortable types of shirt I have ever worn. The extra material in the sleeve allows breat...

Re: Anyone experimented with a Ruana Cloak before?
1,000,000 +1 ways to use it. I'm finding new ways all the time. When I need a little extra warmth I just flip one side of it over the top of my head.
I'm also experimenting with different uses of a sash of which so far I have.
1. Belt
2. Bag
3. Hood
4. Blanket
5. Kilt
6. Camo.
