Re: A large leather barrel costrel.

I was busy last night. Tree painted. Just white acrylic. http://i.imgur.com/wgtePDTl.jpg Stopper made from oak dowel. Edges trimmed and sanded. http://i.imgur.com/00K6JZvl.jpg And waxxed! Inside and out. Dang, I love that rich brown of just beeswax on veg tan leather. I gave it a quick leak test thi...

Re: A large leather barrel costrel.

Yeah, I did a similar thing for my costrel. Balloon is much better than rice or other filler. And yet none of the many tutorials I've gone through use a balloon. The giant balloons are incredibly strong when not fully inflated. I can't believe people are using rice. I see that on wet leather and ju...

So it begins

Mae govannen! I've been lurking for a while and putting things together. Time to formally introduce myself. I'm Carter. My true ranger name is yet to be found. I'm based in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. I've been working and obsessing for the past few months to put together gear and now my first ranger tre...

A Dwarven Sword? What do you think of this?

This short sword has recently caught my eye. https://i.etsystatic.com/28019074/r/il/df8023/3426597627/il_1588xN.3426597627_qasu.jpg Being sold by a few vendors on Etsy and likely elsewhere. https://www.etsy.com/listing/980147272/27-hand-forged-damascus-steel-viking?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_sear...

A large leather barrel costrel.

I'm working on getting my first kit together. My first trek is in a few weeks (Oct 12-Oct 16). I'm working on a leather barrel costrel. I might have gone overboard and made it a bit too large, but then again, I do have a 5 day trek and won't necessarily have stream crossings every day. http://i.imgu...

Re: What's everyone working on?

I'm working on a camp stool/ walking stick based on this video from Skill Tree. That video is based on this Instructable. https://www.instructables.com/Multi-Function-Walking-Stick-Converts-into-a-Cha/ Mine so far. https://i.imgur.com/a1...

Re: What if...

Soft kit improvements need to start with production. Spinning Wheel, Loom, and sewing machine. Pre-industrial hand powered versions would be a massive leap forward with the ability to produce simple garments in a matter of hours, rather than days. Wheels are more efficient and consistent than hand s...

Re: What's everyone working on?

Working on a leather costrel. It should be about 2 liters when done. I don't normally do much leather tooling, but couldn't leave such a large piece blank. I'll paint the tree white. The rest will only be colored/finished with beeswax. https://i.imgur.com/MNhVhQE.jpg https://i.imgur.com/yhmZBKI.jpg

Re: What's everyone working on?

Like your stitching. Is it a spcific style, or your own devising? Thank you. The large buckskin was saddle stitched inside out then turned. Top Left was whip stitched on the bottom. Left one was kind of a combo whip stitch and saddle stitch. Don't really know what it's called. Basically do a saddle...

Re: Inns of Middle Earth

I've only been once, about 8 years ago, passing through on my honeymoon but I'll always remember the bar we stopped at in Killin, Scotland. The Falls Of Dochart Inn was beautiful. We only stopped for lunch and a pint while driving through. Wish we had stayed there. https://www.fallsofdochartinn.co.u...

Re: What's everyone working on?

Putting together my first kit for a multiday trek in October. I've been making leather pouches. Just making random sizes from whatever pieces I've gotten from Tandy Leather's $5 remnant bags.
