Spring 2013 Indy Moot - RECAP
Well THAT was fun!
I had the pleasure of another night under the stars with deadextra, as well as meeting a recent addition to our forum, Straelbora, and his son, both of which were a delight to have along.
Things started out very nicely on Tuesday, with a little bit of fetch and gear-up in the parking lot...
...followed by a quick paddle across the lake to our trailhead. We beached the canoes and set out on foot.
We took lunch in a grove of pines, and considered spending the night there, but after discovering where the wind was headed (directly at us), we found somewhere else more suitable, and altered it to our liking, since the forecast said it was to hit 27 degrees duing the night.
Got the fire going, and cooked separately: salt pork stew, and smoked fish.
...and then settled in for the night.
In the morning, I left by myself to go and pick up our new arrivals, Straelbora and his son, Henry, and bring them back to camp for breakfast and tear-down before hitting the trail.
We left our site and hiked through the lovely woods of brown county, stopping for various "teachable moments" along the way.
We took a quick snack/water break at a pioneer era well and chimney from an 1800's homestead on the property.
We split off the main road (an old wagon road now used regularly by modern vehicles) to strike a narrower, single-track path, part of which began life as a game trail, which led us into a wide and shallow creek drainage with some lovely 6" waterfalls and lots of open space...where we will be setting up base camp for one of these moots when we get a bigger attendance *wink*.
We finally stopped, started up a quick fire, and had a nice hot lunch. Straelbora cooked up some venison, for example.
At this point, our journey was near its end, and we found ourselves upon a familiar sight, a few boats, and a one-way ticket home.
Looking forward to next time!

I had a great time at the meet as always. Most everything worked as it should with just a few things to improve in the future. Thanks to Straelbora for making the trip, it was nice to have new faces around camp.

Looks like a good time! Thanks for the recap.

Looks like so much fun!! This is when I regret living so far away from most of you :/
