Re: Member Shirts
Randir, huh? That's awfully close to "Ranger" in English anyhow. Knowing Tolkien, he probably intended it that way.
Would anyone be opposed to using this word on the shirt? I think it has a nice ring to it, and the Tengwar script for it looks quite pleasing as well (at least according to this online transcriber):

Maerondir Perianseron, also called “Mickel,” Halfling Friend - Ranger of the Misty Mountains

That is just slightly off. Randir would actually transcribe to

Actually, those are both correct and equivalent.
If you have an "n" before a "t" or "d," it can be written shorthand by having a line over top of the letter (usually I draw it with more of a tilde or wavy line though). Also, if you have an "m" before a "p" or "b", you can do the same thing.
There is also more than one "r" - personally I usually use the one at the beginning, because I like how it looks better, but I think "technically" it's supposed to be more for a "trilled" type of r - in which case the second transcription is more correct.
Regardless of how you end up transcribing it, I hope you play around with fonts a little - there are lots of tengwar fonts, and (for example) I like the font Manueveron was using better - there may be others that are better yet. I just try to avoid looking "blocky" with my elvish.

I did do some recent studying and several very reliable websites show "taur'ohtar" as the elven word for ranger. the rootword "taur" means wood (as in forest).
Dunedain is an elven word that translates to "Man of the West"
I also looked up Hunter, which translates to "Faradrim"
If you guys want, I can put up the enourmous dictionary that has elvish to English, AND English to elvish in a separate thread

Wanderer, eh? That's fascinating. First, because wanderer means nearly the same thing as ranger, second, because "not all those who wander are lost."
And third, because there is an anglo-saxon poem called "The Wanderer" which the Professor was quite well aware of - in fact he adapted part of it for one of his songs in LOTR.
If you read The Wanderer, it seems that it could very well describe the inner thoughts of a Dunedain ranger. Here is a page with a modern translation: http://www.anglo-saxons.net/hwaet/?do=g ... ext&id=Wdr
Point is, randir seems perfectly acceptable to me.

Yes Randir is a very appropriate word and seems to flow along with Ranger both in sound and meaning, Amrod Rhandir, Taurrandir, Mythrandir, Lothrandir, Tolkien was thinking along the same lines I am sure.
I am Ringulf the Dwarven Woodsman, I craft leather, wood, metal, and clay,
I throw axes, seaxes, and pointy sticks, And I fire my bow through the day.
Come be my ally, lift up your mead! We'll search out our foes and the Eagles we'll feed!

So we are all in agreement? Randir will be on the chest above the star?
