How to DIY your own Ren Boots. Link to tutorials and video!

A lot of reenactment level work is about learning appropriate historical crafts and skills. This board is for all general skills that don't have their own forum.

How to DIY your own Ren Boots. Link to tutorials and video!

I had shared these over on SBG a couple years ago, and figured now I have a presence here I should share with you all. I still haven't actually tried any of these out, but would like to sometime soon. Since the prices of custom boots from Sodhopper or Turtle Island or others is quite high, I opted for House of Andar boots which are a similar design but not custom sold in standard sizes and feature Doc Martin style soles and 1/2 the price of the custom stuff.

BTW if you don't already know of Turtle Island they are similar to Sodhoppers but a little different http://www.turtleislandmoccs.com/SpecialtyBoots.html
There is also Son of Sandlar http://sonofsandlar.com/products-page/boots/ who offers some unique styles others don't
Also if you hadn't known of house of Andar http://www.houseofandar.com/Renaissance-boots.aspx

I know there is this already a thread Sodhopper style boots pattern! http://ranger.budgetauthenticity.org/fo ... f=25&t=293 but figured this would be better as a unique thread rather than added to the other. If the mods feel it is better together please move it.

There was a school that taught how to make Ren boots, but I can't seem to find the link for it but if I do I will post it up.

First and my favorite that I will likely try when I have the chance.

with PDF tutorial download https://www.box.com/s/f5243m109i5aze8rjyym

then there is this one that is more moc style, but has some great info on how to make such footwear and can still help with other boot work with good info that is transferable.

Last there is a nice video on Vimeo showing how to make these boots. How to Make the Stitch-down Renaissance Boot http://vimeo.com/62045426n (this video was from a DVD tutorial on how to make these boots that came with a pattern but this would be very helpful to someone trying to make them)

I followed a pattern recently by a guy named "squirrel slayer" out of the Czech Republic. You have to be careful with the instructions as I think they may have been translated by Bing. Anyway, I changed up his pattern a bit by dropping down the vamp seam in more of a curve as I thought it might hurt the crease of the ankle. I'll try to post a pic of the finished product. They're really comfortable and easy to make.

I totally understand, the picture size issue of forums can be frustrating.
