Ranger's Workout

Post by Brownno »

I am getting ready for my John Muir Trail hike and for my cross country season. But what i was wondering if there is a good workout to help get me better prepared for rangering.
The mountains are calling and I must go.

Keep close to Nature's heart... and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean.

Having completed a 175 mile walk through Spain last summer, I would say that the best workout is LOTS of walking with your gear. Find a good steep hill to practice on too, body weight squats, planks, and dynamic stretching.

You're doing the John Muir Trail? In moderns or period gear? Best of luck on your trip, regardless!

I am using modern gear as I am doing it with my Boy Scout Troop and thanks for the good wishes. I would love to do the John Muir Trails and the Appalachian trail in period gear.

My dad did the JMT at 22. I planned on matching the accomplishment when I hit 22...but I got married that year, instead. Sometime further down the road I'll tackle it, and do it in my kit, but now isn't the time. Enjoy your trip, and take boatloads of photos.

Welcome to the list, Brownno! I might have missed an intro post about yourself, but if not, please tell us some about you and your interests!

Well I am a Boy Scout working on my Eagle rank. I love camping and everything outdoors. That basically all about me.

Welcome!

Gotta like the scouts - many of the best men I've met have been Eagle Scouts. Good work and good luck! :)
