Carn Dûm

Post by Mirimaran »

As I mentioned Carn Dûm, the fortress of the Witch King of Angmar, in another post, here is a poem I wrote about that dreaded place. Sounds like a good place to explore!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Carn Dûm

Carn Dûm, what horrors did your red mansion hold
tempting men brave and bold
to trek your icy paths
and dare the chilling wrath
of things best not thought of
in Carn Dûm
in Carn Dûm
where Men met their doom
and above them in darkness loomed
eyes that saw past life
locked in endless strife
with the steadfast Dunedain
on who's souls they would gladly dine
but for the warning in our hearts
we would never depart
for Carn Dûm
for Carn Dûm
where blackened spires split the sky
and where dark things shriek and cry
and at night weeping winds
carry to us the woes of Men
and our dreams are most troubled
near Carn Dûm
near Carn Dûm
who's dwarven carved delves
hosted the Enemy of Men and Elves
and deeper still in the creeping black
where the hearts of Men falter and lack
sits a throne of coldest stone
left now for centuries alone
where it's Master plotted from afar
the Witch-King of Angmar
his Carn Dûm
his Carn Dûm
Where banners red stained the sky
where Dunedain fought and died
where evil had it's greatest day
where the north wind blows away
the chill of darkness that we know
at Carn Dûm
at Carn Dûm
The great stone doors still stand wide
as on that day of his pride
when his host rode to war
to Fornost to evermore
hold dominion over us all
but to the King's standard came the call
and Gondor's banners filled the sky
and beside them Elf lords took up the cry
"Death to Carn Dûm!"
"Death to Carn Dûm!"
Horns blew and steel was bared
hobbit arrows split the air
spears flew straight and true
our enemies fled as we slew
the hosts of darkness to fly away
to Carn Dûm
to Carn Dûm
And the Witch-King is long since past
but his mansion was built to last
and years go by and here we stay
waiting for the darkest day
when his shadow will again loom
over the spires of Carn Dûm
and his armies gather again
to trouble the world of Men
from Carn Dûm
from Carn Dûm
When he comes he will find
the banner of the Dunedain
flies now against the Northern sky
here we stand, here we die
Rangers few to keep us safe from
Carn Dûm
Carn Dûm...

"Well, what are you waiting for? I am an old man, and have no time for your falter! Come at me, if you will, for I do not sing songs of dastards!"
