Thrown weapons run (as requested)

A lot of reenactment level work is about learning appropriate historical crafts and skills. This board is for all general skills that don't have their own forum.

Thrown weapons run (as requested)

Post by Ringulf »

This is the Thrown weapons example run I did in the summer. Kealin asked for a video and I am working on it but this run occured at a practice and a friend of mine was able to take a pic of each piece I threw, watch them pile up! Hee hee, normallyI don't throw at the target after my axe goes up as it tends to have this effect:

Image

Unless we are playing "Loki's Legs" ...that is were you have to throw both axes at the same time and throw all three seaxes between the two. (a bit of a challenge and why I make a lot of axe handles)

Anyway on with the run!

(Just a note: all of this is done on the move, advancing on the target with a brief pause for the second seax.)

First throw, spear from behind the 20' mark
Image

Second throw, axe approximately 15' mark

Third throw, Seax from the 12" mark to the 3:00 position
Image

Fourth throw, seax at 15" mark to the 9:00 position
Image

Fifth throw, throwing dagger at the 10' mark to the 12:00 position

Chuck around the clock!

I will try to get some vids up next!

Very nice!

Now you've gotten me excited about thrown weapons again. I still need to learn how to throw those throwing knives I have. Does anyone know if there are online video guides or even illustrated written guides to proper knife-throwing technique out there?

Yes there are Ernildir! I will look up a few and get back to you on it, in the mean time look up Beast of Burden Enterpises on line (youtube) on axe and knife throwing, Avery does a grest job explaining the basics.

I finally decided to get around to looking at Avery's video(s?) on throwing just now, but couldn't manage to find them on youtube or google. XD Could someone please toss me a link if you know where they are?

Thanks.

Excellent, thank you!

Though I only see videos about axe-throwing... none for knives. Are they basically thrown the same way? So I could learn to throw knives by watching the axe-throwing tutorials?

A lot of that depends on the type of knife you throw. My CS seax knifes throw more like axes and a slight step forward normally is all the adjustment I need to stick them properly. but the balance is very different and the technique involved in getting good form with both types of weapon is somewhat different. I suggest you just look on Youtube for knife throwing. Though I seem to remember Avery having a rather nice tutorial on throwing Bowie type blades.

Yeah, I've had luck throwing axes, and I find it really fun, but I'm shyte with knives. They boggle me for some reason, and I can never get them to rotate right.
