Hoods

A lot of reenactment level work is about learning appropriate historical crafts and skills. This board is for all general skills that don't have their own forum.

Hoods

Post by Peter Remling »

As I mentioned in another thread, one of the " Ranger's Want List" posts got me interested in attempting a hood/mantle/cowl. I did the brown one in about 3 hours on Tuesday when I rec'd the chocolate leather. The second one took about 7 hours between yesterday and today. I rec'd the "cashew" leather yesterday and would have finished it yesterday, if I stuck with the original crenellation type hem, but looking at it yesterday I realizied it would look better this way so I added the green hem and pewter accents.

Brown one first:

I am the very proud and honored recipient of those two hoods, and I will tell anyone on this list or any other that Peter is a true craftsman and a truly generous man. I will have to take pics of both hoods myself, but I can tell you that both are very comfortable, and very well made. My wife was sure that the stitching was machine done, and imagine her surprise when she found it was all hand done! We can certainly appreciate the time and skill it took to make them. The second of the hoods we have dubbed "The Party Hood" as it reminds me of the dwarven hoods mentioned in "The Hobbit". If ever anyone here had a doubt about Peter's skill, or were hesitant about employing his services, let me tell you go for it, because at this rate, in a few short years his early work may become collector's items! Well done, Peter, and thank you again!
"Well, what are you waiting for? I am an old man, and have no time for your falter! Come at me, if you will, for I do not sing songs of dastards!"
