I buy bits of leather from Tandy Leather and so they send me catalogues.
One recent sale item is veg-tanned side, 17 sq ft for $49.99.
Yes, it isn;t perfect because there will be big bites and maybe a brand but for most things like bags, back-packs and quivers, a decoration will hide a blemish.
So check your local or internet Tandy store for sales like this!
