A gift from the Dwarves... THE Dwarf!
So.. back in October '14 I sent a crow out across the mountains to Ringulf... I messaged him on the forum about crafting a seax for myself. After exchanging concepts, ideas, a bit of backstory, and so on I found myself with a well-awaited package yesterday. This process has been great, and now I can share with you the awesomeness that is his craft!
The concept of the seax was that the handle is made of root, being commanded by some druidic magic to twist around the tang of the blade and clasp around a stone as a pommel. The runes along the blade brand this weapon as "Wolfreach", the claw and fang lurking in the forest.
Very well done my friend, I couldn't thank you enough!

...in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.

Glad it got there safely and that you like the final product!
(Pull those cords down and show the tooling on the sheath!) hee hee!
I very much enjoyed collaborating with Eothain, he has a great imagination and an enthusiastic spirit!
May Wolfreach serve you well!

I forgot to show one not-so-little detail.
The same runes on the blade are repeated on the sheath as well. A good amount of the beauty of a weapon is it's scabbard/sheath in my opinion. This sheath really is quite beautiful, much thought and care were placed into it, just as the weapon it holds!

Whoa, that's wild! What is the sculpted grip made out of, Ringulf? Or is it a dwarven proprietary trade secret?

I had been working with Polymer clay for many years and several years ago came across a Knife making article that stated that polymer handles were the rage. I had been working with other applications but decided to try the handle techniques. it took a while to get but I have come down to the right mixture of polymers to make the resulting handles very strong and just a bit flexible. That would be the mix in the handle, the "moss" you see on the bottom is Sculpey Mold Maker which, when baked to the right temperature, becomes like rubber and also has very good adhesive properties. (gives great grip and accepts leather dyes very well) Using a wire brush you can get textures that look like snow, moss, wood and fur. there are lots of other techniques to do many different things.
I have some of my other polymer handles in some of the older CS Seax posts.
I had not been doing this for a while as I have been learning and experimenting with real antler, horn, bone and wood, as well as stacked leather disks and cuire boulle scales and some limited casting.
But I must say it is a lot of fun to work with the Polymer.

That's fantastic work and so wonderful to see kindred Rangers working together
