Well met!
Been lurking on the forum for a while and realised there is quite a tribe of likeminded rangers out there, so here's me joining in.

As I'm Norwegian I'm fortunate I have pretty easy access to rather spectacular nature areas, and I frequent the local woods a fair bit. Hiking is one of my favourite forms of exercise, and in rangery type of kit if possible.
Any other scandiwegians here by any chance?

Looking forward to the chats! :)

Eira

Oh neat. I've got some great-great-grandparents from Lilihammer (might be a few more generations in there, American Midwest Scandinavian immigrants been here a long time). And that area looks absolutely beautiful for ranging.

I know Norway has a hunting culture. Are you able to carry a bow/knife and bow hunt on your outings?

Well met!

What are your forests like? Lots of pine and birch?

Welcome to the forums Eira!

Off the top of my head Asbjorn is Swedish and I think perhaps Darnokthemage is as well. Maybe Charlotte?

Whereabouts in Norway are you from? I was lucky enough to spend some time there a few years back and it's magnificent.

Thank you all!

Yes, there’s quite a lot of spruce and fir as well as various sorts of birch and other deciduous trees here. I can bring knife and axe when hiking, there’s a very strong knife as tools tradition here. Bow hunting is for the time being illegal, only firearms are used, but there are interest groups working to change that.

In the mean while, just being outside, enjoying the landscape and practicing various other skills is enjoyable. Also the berry season offers a lot of goodness in the forest.

I'll say! We had a local chef invite us out on her morning dog walk/forage trip and the amount of mushrooms, herbs and berries she was picking up was astounding. She showed us chaga for the first time and brewed us up some which was delicious. I am very envious!
