Thats funny as I had just removed some leather from an old shoe for use in making a sling.

Raising a post from the dead :)

A fellow at work made this for me the other night:

paracord and an old glove lol but I did get a chance to try it out to day and after a few tries I was able to get the rock where I wanted it. It is going in my kit :)

Very nice, Mirimaran. This is tempting me to try my hand at making one. :D

I'm very good at hurting myself with a sling.

Never tried using one myself (always wanted to try), but I have a feeling the results would be quite similar to both of yours, haha.

If you're interested in learning how, I shot a video a while back instructing in one of the slinging styles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PyN2MnBOzI

Brian!

Fantastic video man! you are a very good video instructor. I really feel I could take the plunge and start this just by that head start information.

So do you have some info on making the sling that might have some plans? I know it is rather strait forward but I would like to keep the continuity of the way you do it from start to finish.

The best resource for making slings is here http://slinging.org/index.php?page=advice-and-how-to-s The one that I use normally is the apache sling, though I do things a little differently. I don't have a tutorial up for making a sling, but it's something that I've wanted to do!

Thank you for the kind words on the video! I have a lot of fun shooting them, and I try to be as clear and easy to follow as possible.

Nice video! I checked out some of your others as well, and I absolutely loved the one on longbows. I'm working in a shop at the local renaissance festival this year selling bows, and I find myself repeating a lot of that same info over and over again to new archers, heh.

I'm wondering in I should start trying to make a sling and practice with it so I'm decent with it and can use it in an if-need situation or just stick to my bow...

I think that would be a great idea. You can always have a sling with you, but a bow is a little harder to explain when you're walking down the street. Still use the bow as well, but the sling is a usefull tool to have.
