Thoughts on strongblade in general and blackrush coustille

Post by caedmon »

So this last Saturday, my nine year old got on Santa's lap and asked for a dagger. After Santa picked his jaw up off the floor, I got to thinking... Why not? It's about time to start training him in blade care. And a transitional dagger/sword is just about perfect.

Anyway, I found the strongblade blackrush coustille and noticed a couple members of this forum have reviewed them in the past. Does anyone have feelings about this company and general quality? Should I even be asking this question for $50?

I've had a couple of their swords, but no daggers. The swords are built like a tank, unfortunetly they seem to handle like one to. The dagger looks solid and much more wieldable. I'd go for it at $50.

I've held a few, but it's been a LONG time. The one in your photo even LOOKS weighty. Let us know if you get it and how it feels.

I have to admit it does look heavy but it looks very pretty too!

So why does it look like a gen 1 Windlass Coustille?

I'm pretty sure that since the Coustille went out of production the rights for the design are floating around now. Could be wrong, but that's the general feel I've picked up surrounding it.
Now the sword shall come from under the cloak.

Well, a short blade that is heavy is fine. It's when you find a so-called "sword" built like brick that weight is an issue.

And remember- Deepeka and Windlass are in bed together, so...

At $50, go for it! It can be re-gound if it's too horrible.

They generally don't copyright a sword design. Windlass has freely copied many Del Tin designs. Even when sword designs are copyrighted, a minor change, will avoid copyright infringement laws. Think Lotr movie Aragorn's sword how many different Ranger's swords are out there that avoided a lawsuit.

If someone is looking for one of the Coustille, I have one laying around. Not sure which one but either way not one of my favorites so we can talk.
